"Studio Sleuths" is the third episode of the second season of Barbie: It Takes Two. It is the sixteenth episode overall. It was released on October 1, 2022 on Netflix US.[3]

Official Description[]

"When things at the recording studio suddenly start disappearing - including Brooklyn's phone, with Brooklyn and Malibu's latest music on it. The girls become amateur detectives to recover everything."[4]

Story[]

The Barbies go to Blown Speaker Studios to record "Find My Way Home" for their demo. In the control booth, Chuck says he has to make some last tweaks to the track. Brooklyn gives her phone to Chuck and asks him to put the song on her phone so she can let her parents hear it. He agrees and leaves her phone on the mixer board.

Malibu and Brooklyn go to a different room to have some snacks. Lyla enters with a dog named Guinevere. Lyla says she likes Guinevere better than most people, and if Guinevere makes the artists happier, the artists will break less things in the studio. Rafa says if things aren't broken, there will be nothing for Lyla to repair and she won't have anything to do all day. Lyla glares at Rafa, so Rafa gets scared and says Chuck is done with the track.

Rafa goes back to the control booth with The Barbies. Chuck and Gato are gone. Brooklyn's phone is missing from the mixer board, as well as Chuck's keys. Chuck returns and says he searched everywhere for his keys. He finds out that Brooklyn's phone is missing too. Brooklyn tells Malibu that her phone had new lyrics and melodies on it that they'd been working on for weeks, and the lyrics and melodies weren't backed up anywhere.

Lyla leaves to bring Guinevere to a vocalist in recording booth 2. Malibu wants to investigate the missing phone and keys. She thinks that maybe someone took the phone and keys by accident and left them somewhere in the studio. Rafa says someone observant should lead the investigation. Before he can volunteer, Malibu calls Chelsea for help. Chelsea's favorite show is called Sally Snoops, so Chelsea uses it for inspiration. Chelsea saysthe first thing Sally would do is make a list of suspects.

Malibu, Brooklyn and Rafa investigate the studio while Malibu tells Chelsea who the suspects are and where they are located. Chelsea gives the names to Skipper and Stacie so they can write a list. The suspects are: Chuck, who is in the control booth; Vanessa, the vocalist in booth 2; and Lyla, as well as a drummer named James, who are in the lobby. Gato sees Guinevere in the lobby and they bark at each other.

Malibu's sisters make a model of the recording studio, with objects to represent where the suspects are. Stacie tries to include a spoon, but when Stacie wags the spoon, Honey jumps up and grabs it in her mouth and runs away. Stacie chases after her and gets the spoon back. Chelsea says the next phase of the investigation is to interrogate the suspects. Gato is gone, so Rafa goes to find him.

Malibu and Brooklyn begin interrogating people, with Malibu using a nice approach and Brooklyn using a tough approach. They start with James, the drummer from the lobby. When he hears that there is a thief, he asks the girls if they've found his drumsticks. When The Barbies interrogate Vanessa, the singer from booth 2, she says her red lipstick is missing. Malibu switches to a tough approach and then they interrogate Chuck.

Lyla says her pen and wallet are missing. Malibu and Brooklyn try to interrogate Lyla next, but her glare scares them out of asking any questions. At the Dreamhouse, Chelsea tries to sit in a cool pose like Sally Snoops, but Honey jumps on her. Chelsea says the next thing to do is figure out the possible motive of stealing Brooklyn's phone. Skipper says Chuck and Lyla help singers, so they wouldn't steal the phone. Malibu's sisters whittle the suspects down to James and Lyla, because only another musician would benefit from the music on Brooklyn's phone.

The Barbies interrogate Vanessa and James again. Both suspects say they saw a guy sneaking around the studio with a dog, so The Barbies interrogate Rafa. None of the suspects confess to stealing anything. At the Dreamhouse, Chelsea looks at the model of the studio. Honey steals the spoon again and Chelsea realizes the thief was Gato. Chelsea explains to Malibu that Gato was the only one in the control booth when the phone went missing.

Rafa and The Barbies find Gato and see him stealing something. Brooklyn alerts everyone that they found the thief. Everyone chases after Gato and sees him bring the stolen object to Guinevere, who is sitting on a stack of other stolen things. Gato and Guinevere rub their noses together. Gato stole all those things as romantic gifts for Guinevere. Everyone takes their things back, and Gato and Guinevere run off together. Malibu thanks Chelsea for her help. Malibu and Brooklyn apologize to Rafa for suspecting him.
