Official Description[]
"Malibu and Brooklyn get help from their friends and family to find Otto Phoenix and deliver their music demo before heading to California for the summer, but encounter a series of unexpected obstacles."[4]
Story[]
Malibu's family drives to New York to pick her and Brooklyn up so they can spend the summer in California. George is lost while driving. Margaret phones Malibu and says she can't wait to see her and spend time with Simone and Kel. Malibu and Brooklyn have finished their music demo for Otto Phoenix, so they go to his office to deliver it before they leave New York.
At the office, Malibu is shocked to see Pandora because she thought Pandora left to work at Dream It Be It Records. Brooklyn is confused, so Malibu replies that it was just a dream. Rafa is excited to meet Pandora even though Malibu and Brooklyn told him "horrifying stories" about her. He quickly realizes they were right. Pandora says Otto is out of the office until the following day, and doesn't believe the girls' demo is a solicited submission. As Rafa and the girls leave, Malibu overhears Pandora saying that Otto will be visiting different music venues for 30 minutes each (any longer and his allergies will flare up).
Rafa and the girls go to Brooklyn's house. Malibu's family is there waiting with Brooklyn's parents. Simone, Kel and George try to congratulate the girls, but the girls sadly reveal they didn't get their demo to Otto. Margaret stops Malibu's sisters from bringing balloons and a cake into the room. Brooklyn describes Pandora as a "indestructible concrete wall", and Malibu says Pandora's "bad attitude has somehow gotten worse." Malibu and Brooklyn say they have no idea how they will get their demo to Otto before they leave for California the following morning. Malibu feels like their dreams of a music career are over. Margaret tells the girls to stop feeling sorry for themselves and George says it's not like them to give up. Kel tells the girls they have come too far to just quit. Simone says they still have time to deliver the demo. Malibu's sisters say they will all help.
Malibu thinks they should check different music venues until they find Otto. Rafa says that would take days since there are so many music venues in the city, adding that he knows this because he visited all of them with his cousin Izzy trying to book gigs for Malibu and Brooklyn. Brooklyn has read Otto's autobiography so she knows his 4 favorite venues in town. The West Coast Roberts go to one venue, the East Coast Roberts go to another, Malibu and Brooklyn team up, and Rafa asks Izzy for help.
Malibu and Brooklyn find the venue Otto is in, but they can't get in without an appointment. The other groups meet the girls at the venue and wait for Otto to leave. Otto takes the back exit and is driven away in a white limo. Brooklyn looks up Otto's most recent interview and finds out he has daily visits to his favorite spa. He didn't name the spa but mentioned he likes getting seaweed wraps using brown kelp. Brooklyn narrows it down to 8 spas.
Instead of chasing Otto, Brooklyn wants to get him to come to them. Midtown isn't a small area, but the girls met a lot of people during their side gigs that would be willing to help find Otto. Rafa calls Epiphany and asks if she's with Buddy and Stefan; Malibu contacts Emma and Paul; and Brooklyn phones Lyla and tells her to get Chuck. The plan is to have people act as lookouts around midtown, and report to Malibu and Brooklyn when Otto's limo is spotted. They also plan to create diversions to reroute Otto's limo to Brooklyn Bridge Park, where Malibu and Brooklyn will be waiting for Otto. They will give him their demo and remind him why he was interested in them. Brooklyn asks Simone to see if she can get Jayla and Jackson to help, and Malibu will keep making calls.
Simone and Kel see Otto's limo driving down Broadway. Buddy and Epiphany use boxes from Buddy's Cafe to block the road, so Otto's driver has to take a different route. Malibu and Brooklyn go back to Brooklyn's house to get their guitars. Malibu's sisters see Otto turning onto 32nd street. Emma and Paul ask a pretzel cart to block a road, and The Dash films them. Rafa and Izzy see Otto heading to Fifth Avenue. Big Base blocks the road with garbage. As the driver keeps changing routes, Otto obliviously listens to music and reads a newspaper in the back of the limo.
Stefan and his dad try to block a street by miming that there is a wall in front of it. They are disappointed when the limo carries on driving. Glynnis, Blaine and several mascots block a road. They are happy when the limo changes direction. Malibu and Brooklyn wait in Brooklyn Bridge Park and tune their guitars. Lyla and Chuck set up speakers and microphones. Lyla gets frustrated so Chuck has to calm her down. Jayla, Jackson and their dads block a road with their bikes.
Magnifico tries to do a spell to block the road, but it doesn't work. He puts a single traffic cone down and the limo drives around it. A man in another vehicle blocks the limo and reunites Magnifico with Princess Petunia Pufferfeather. The limo ends up at Brooklyn Bridge Park. The Barbies have changed into their pink performance costumes and are on a stage. They perform a new song called "More" for Otto. The Dash films the performance and most of the people who helped get Otto there form an audience. Margaret, George, Skipper, Stacie, Chelsea, Simone, Kel, Jayla, Jackson, Jayla and Jackson's dads, Rafa, Izzy, Lyla, Chuck, Epiphany, Buddy, Emma, Paul, Stefan and Stefan's dad watch the performance with Otto. Skipper video chats with Ken so he can watch.
After the performance, Malibu and Brooklyn remind Otto how they met and how he recognised them from when Emmie hosted their Times Square performance. Brooklyn hands Otto the demo and Malibu tells him they spent the whole school year making it. Otto remembers the girls and thinks this performance was better than the Times Square one. Otto says Pandora could've just booked them a performance but the girls' dedication and determination impressed him. He tells them he will listen to the demo and be in contact. The audience cheers and applauds while The Dash films. Malibu and Brooklyn thank everyone for helping and Rafa says it was in return for how they helped everyone during the year.
The West Coat Roberts get in their camper to leave for California with Malibu and Brooklyn. Brooklyn will be back in the fall. Brooklyn hugs her parents and Simone asks if Brooklyn has made a decision about accepting a slot at Bertram's highly prestigious acting academy he'll be opening in the fall. Brooklyn is finding it hard to decide since she and Malibu are best friends and make a great team. Kel tells Brooklyn to listen to her heart, and Brooklyn leaves for California with the West Coast Roberts. Rafa and Gato secretly get in the camper to join them because Rafa isn't ready to say goodbye to the girls. He tells them, "It's like mi abuela always says: A summer apart is good for the heart, but a season away can turn the heart gray and make it so lonely it shrivels into dust." Malibu tells George that they will need to take a detour through Queens.
