Queen Calissa is the overarching protagonist in Barbie in A Mermaid Tale and Barbie in A Mermaid Tale 2. She is voiced by Nicole Oliver. Calissa is the queen of Oceana and the mother of Merliah Summers.
Story[]
Calissa is the Queen of the underwater kingdom of Oceana. Calissa and her sister, Eris, don't have a good relationship. Eris is jealous of her because Calissa rules the kingdom. When Calissa was young, she was chosen to take part in the Changing of the tides Ceremony, and she gained the power to make Merillia. A few years later, she met a human named Rip. They fell in love and secretly married. Rip passed away in an unspecified accident, and about a year later, Calissa gave birth to Merliah, who was half human and half mermaid.
Calissa loved her daughter, but she knew that life in the underwater world would be dangerous for Merliah since she was born with legs and no tail and Eris hated legs. So Calissa gave her to Break, Rip's father. A year later, she was overthrown by Eris. She was in prison for 15 years, and was forced to spin Merillia for Eris, but she wasn't happy so the Merillia wasn't very Healthy. When her daughter was 16, she saved Oceana and her mother. Now, Calissa is as happy as before, she rules the kingdom again, and she and Merliah are reunited.
Personality[]
Queen Calissa is a brave, charismatic, smart, strong, and fair mermaid. She is kind and calm. She rules the kingdom with love. She tends to be very serious about her kingdom, telling Merliah she must come to the Changing of the Tides Ceremony. Calissa is also a very loving mother.

Queen Calissa is a beautiful mermaid with a blue and white tail. She has long light blonde hair with light blue highlights, big purple eyes, fair skin, and red lips.

- In the storybook, she has the same hairstyle as Queen Isabella from Barbie: Princess Charm School. Her hairstyle is also similar to Melody's and Queen Lorelei's.
- In the Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse episode "Party Foul", Nikki has a tail very similar to Calissa's.
