The Palace is a location in Barbie of Swan Lake. It is the home of Prince Daniel and his mother. After their marriage, it also became the home of Daniel's wife Princess Odette.
Places of Interest[]
- Courtyard: This is where Daniel practices his archery. It is a vast area with hedges, shrubs, vases, a marble statue, and a fountain, with the palace moat nearby. A stack of straw bales serves as a target for the archery practice sessions.
- Library: The library is a big room with many shelves of books and a large desk for Daniel to sit at. In the room is a staircase that presumably leads up to another floor within the library.
- Ballroom: The ballroom is in the east wing of the palace, next to the courtyard. It has a curtained entrance, a wide checkered floor decorated with a pattern of flowers, and several sets of doors surrounding the room. It also has an upper ledge with a railing around the walls, which leads out to the windows above the ballroom.
Story[]
In the courtyard, Daniel practiced his archery as his friend Reggie watched. Reggie challenged him to hit one of the feed sacks in a wagon all the way at the end of the garden, and Daniel easily hit his target just as the Queen entered the courtyard. Daniel immediately went over to talk to his mother, and she showed him the letters she got from princesses who answered her invitations to the upcoming royal ball. She reminded him he needed to select a bride at the ball, even though he protested he wanted to travel and explore first. She told him he could do all of that after marrying and giving her grandchildren.
Later, Daniel and Reggie carried a crate into the palace library. Daniel was disappointed when the crate opened to reveal an inaccurately cube-shaped globe, but Reggie told him not to worry about it because they had enough to do it. He put the crate back together while Daniel commented on all the unexplored lands shown on the globe. Reggie warned him of all the dangers the unexplored territories represented, and reminded him his real "adventure" would be to find a princess to marry at the ball.
Rothbart and his daughter Odile visited the palace for the ball and met Daniel and his mother. Odile was magically disguised as Odette and Rothbart was disguised to look similar to Odette's father, as part of Rothbart's plan to trick Daniel into swearing his love to the disguised Odile in order to rob the Magic Crystal of its power and weaken Odette. As Daniel danced with Odile in the ballroom while Rothbart and the Queen watched, Odette tried to fly in to stop Daniel from falling for Rothbart's trick. Rothbart closed the doors and a window on Odette to prevent her from interfering, and got Daniel to declare his love to the disguised Odile, causing Odette to faint and the Magic Crystal to lose its power.
Rothbart then triumphantly revealed himself and Odile to Daniel, shocking the other guests at the ball. They transformed into vultures and went outside the palace, where Odette lay unconscious and turned back into her human form. Rothbart took the crown off of her and gave it to Odile, then put the powerless crystal into his collar to fuel his dark magic. While admiring the crown, Odile saw Daniel's reflection as he stood on an upper railing above the ballroom to sneak up on Rothbart and warned her father.
Daniel jumped down from the railing and confronted Rothbart and Odile. Rothbart attacked him with his magic, but Daniel rolled behind Odile and caused the spell to hit Odile instead, transforming her into a pig. Rothbart was distraught at what he accidentally did to his daughter and tried to console her, while the Fairy Queen, Lila, Carlita and Ivan arrived in a majestic carriage and retrieved the unconscious Odette. When Rothbart noticed they were escaping with Odette, he turned back into his vulture form to give chase and left Odile behind outside the palace.
