Story[]
Big City, Big Dreams[]
Barbie travels from Malibu to New York for a summer semester at Handler Arts Academy. She gets there a day early and meets another girl named Barbie, who is from Brooklyn. They nickname each other "Malibu" and "Brooklyn", based on where they are from.
Malibu and Brooklyn quickly become friends and explore New York together. They compete for a Spotlight Solo performance in Times Square. Malibu accidentally knocks Brooklyn into an orchestra pit, so Brooklyn gets injured. A witness lies to the dean what Malibu pushed Brooklyn on purpose. Malibu gets expelled and Brooklyn no longer wants to be Malibu's friend.
Malibu goes home to California. When Brooklyn finds out that Malibu pushed her by accident, Brooklyn and her mother Simone fly to California so Brooklyn can apologize to Malibu. They fly back to New York and find out they have both been picked for the Spotlight Solo. Malibu and Brooklyn perform in Times Square while their friends and family watch.
It Takes Two[]
Malibu and Brooklyn get accepted for the fall semester at Handler Arts Academy. However, Brooklyn's parents don't want her to stay at the dorms, and Malibu's parents want her to come back to California and go to high school. The girls plan to make Malibu's parents love New York, and to convince Brooklyn's parents to let Malibu live with them while she attends Handler Arts Academy.
Malibu and Brooklyn show Malibu's parents around New York, but they hate it due to several scary and uncomfortable experiences. They go to Brooklyn's house for dinner, and Malibu tries to help out to show she would be a good house guest. Malibu and Brooklyn end up performing a song about their friendship, which convinces their parents to let them live in Brooklyn together while they go to Handler Arts Academy for the fall. They take the New York subway to get to school.
