Story
Malibu and Brooklyn audition for the fall semester at Handler Arts Academy. Rafa and Gato go to the girls' dorm room just in time to receive their results together. All three get accepted. However, Brooklyn's parents (Simone and Kel) don't want her to stay at the dorms, and Malibu's parents (Margaret and George) want her to go to high school in California.
The girls plan to convince Brooklyn's parents to let both girls stay at their house for the semester, and also to make Margaret and George love New York. Malibu's family comes to New York to have dinner at Brooklyn's house before they bring Malibu home. Chelsea and Stacie try to play with Brooklyn's cat, Etta, but Etta is very shy. Malibu tries to be helpful to prove she'll be a good house guest. Brooklyn's neighbors, twins Jayla and Jackson, join the Roberts families for dinner. The twins say their dads want to talk to Brooklyn's parents later.
Malibu's sisters confront her after dinner because they want her to come home. After reminding her sisters that she loves them no matter what, Malibu asks for their understanding and they have a group hug. Brooklyn makes a list of things that will make Margaret and George love New York. First, Brooklyn and Malibu take Malibu's family sightseeing. Margaret and George feel uncomfortable when they get mimicked by a mime and chased by squirrels. Later, they visit the Empire State Building, but it's too cloudy to enjoy the view. The Roberts get stuck on the subway for hours, and then go on horse and carriage rides. Margaret and George are terrified when a dog scares the horse for their carriage, causing the horse to start galloping. A boat ride also goes wrong due to mechanical difficulties.
After having a bad day in New York, Margaret and Greg can't wait to go home. Malibu comes up with an idea to perform a show with Brooklyn. The show will be about how much it means to them to stay together. Rafa says his grandmother's advice would be to stall for as long as possible. Jayla and Jackson help Malibu's sisters to stall their parents long enough for Malibu and Brooklyn to write and rehearse their performance. The parents try to put their daughter's moving boxes in the camper, but the kids keep moving the boxes back to the dorms.
Skipper plays music and the performance begins. Stacie, Jayla, Jackson and Rafa pretend to be fans asking for autographs and selfies. Brooklyn and Malibu say they don't perform for fame, they do it because it's their passion. Their only wish is to stay together in New York so they can keep making their dreams come true. Chelsea and the others dance backup while Malibu and Brooklyn sing "After Us", and Rafa chases Gato. Malibu and Brooklyn's parents give them a standing ovation after the performance. They agree to let the girls go to Handler Arts Academy for the fall semester, and Malibu gets to stay with them. The camper gets towed due to being parked outside too long, so Malibu's family sleeps over at Brooklyn's house.
