Gothel's Manor is a main location in Barbie as Rapunzel. It was Gothel's and her pet Otto's home before she bewitched the tower with an unbreakable curse and was trapped there for the rest of her life, without any chances of escaping. It was also where Rapunzel, Penelope, Hugo and Hobie lived for seventeen years before they moved out.
It was hidden inside of a deep forest and was surrounded by a magical wall, which could be opened only by Gothel, and dragons could fly over it. When Gothel was defeated, the magical wall was lifted and Rapunzel's former Room was charmed by Gothel to never release a prisoner with a lying heart. This curse trapped her in what used to be Rapunzel's bedroom for the rest of her life. Interestingly, at the very end of the movie, Otto could still carry tea to his mistress from the kitchen despite the door to the bedroom being erased by her dark magic at the beginning.
Places of Interest[]
- Courtyard: It was shown in the beginning of the movie when Gothel returns from riding. This is when Hugo flies to the manor to see his daughter, as well as where he was chained to one of the walls of the manor near the ending of the movie. It holds a big statue of a dragon, as well as a garden where Hobie and Penelope pick berries to make paint for Rapunzel. The paths are covered with yellow tiles, and all the trees are dark. In general, it's one of the darkest places in the manor because sun rays don't go through the magic wall.
- Hallway: Here, Rapunzel meets Gothel at the front door when she returns from her daily rides. There is a red carpet, four standing torches, and a stairway with one squeaking step.
- Kitchen: Here, Rapunzel makes tea for Gothel. It holds a big fireplace and has a secret stairway under the floor, which leads to a secret basement and an underground tunnel.
- Secret Basement: In the secret basement, there are many things from Gothel's past that she'd forgotten about, for there is a lot of dust. Here is a big chest with Gothel's ball invitations, a portrait of Gothel and King Wilhelm (whose face was torn out by Gothel in a fit of rage), and a little music box with a silver hairbrush inside.
- Secret Tunnel: When Hobie scared Penelope, she stepped on the floor and made a hole inside it. Rapunzel discovered a tunnel there. She went through the tunnel and found a staircase, which led up to a cave that led outside to King Frederick's Kingdom.
- Gothel's Room: Gothel's bedroom is a large room with a red canopy bed and a fireplace. Rapunzel brought Gothel her tea in bed and closed the curtains for her beauty nap. After being trapped by her own spell in Rapunzel's tower, Gothel was barred from this area permanently.
- Rapunzel's Room: It was the brightest place in the manor. The walls were painted with roses, probably by Rapunzel, and the bed was decorated with vines of flowers. It's also her painting studio, where her paintings and her easel stood. After they were broken, Rapunzel painted on her room's walls. It has two big windows and, before Gothel's spell, it had a door. Gothel made the tower with Rapunzel's room higher and destroyed all the doors and the flowers surrounding Rapunzel's bed. Neverthless, it has a tube in that same room through which small creatures, like Hobie or Otto, can go in and out of the mansion as they pleased. After Rapunzel was freed, Gothel became a prisoner there for the rest of her days.
