"Gone to the Dogs" is the fourth episode of the first season of Barbie: It Takes Two. It was released on Netflix US on April 8, 2022.[2]
Official Description[]
"Who let the dogs out and into the fashion show? The besties get busy as dog walkers to help save up for their first professional record demo."[3]
Story[]
Malibu and Brooklyn work on a demo for Otto Phoenix. Dean Morrison tells them off for recording an outside project in the school. She lets them off with a warning. Rafa says they are lucky because he heard someone got expelled for recording a podcast on school grounds. The girls need a new plan for recording their demo.
Brooklyn says they need to record their demo soon, or Otto could forget about them. Rafa thinks it will be easy for them to find another studio in New York, but he is too busy to help them because he is designing costumes for a charity fashion show. They ask Emmie, and she gives them an address for the studio she always goes to. Emmie's studio is too expensive for them. They need money to rent a studio, and their parents expect them to get the money themselves. Brooklyn goes online and finds Blown Speaker Studios, which has the lowest rates in town.
Malibu and Brooklyn meet Lyla, who works at the studio. She bills them $150 for the 3 hours they used the studio, and the girls also need enough money for more studio time to finish their demo. Renee is at the Dreamhouse and she calls Malibu for advice on a gift for Teresa's birthday. Stacie's room is messy, so she offers Malibu money to clean it, but Malibu declines. Renee also refuses. Malibu suggests getting Teresa passes to the "Your Place in the Space Race" conference, and then hangs up.
Malibu suggests that she and Brooklyn take side gigs and odd jobs on the weekends or after school. Rafa and Gato visit them to borrow a scarf for the charity event. Rafa has been too busy to walk Gato. Rafa tells the girls that dog-walking is the most popular side gig. After negotiating fees, he offers to pay them $5 to walk Gato. They accept the offer, walk Gato for 2 hours, and return him to Rafa before Rafa goes to the charity event. Brooklyn calculates how many dogs they will have to walk to earn $150.
The girls walk several energetic dogs, which is tiring, but it inspires them for their first song ("Can't Stop Us"). Renee calls Malibu again for advice to make Stacie clean her room. Malibu says after being charged $150 at the studio, and only getting $5 by Rafa for two hours of dog-walking, she isn't the best person to ask for negotiating tips. After talking to Renee, Malibu and Brooklyn remember Rafa's charity event. Brooklyn notes that the dogs have calmed down, so the girls bring the dogs with them to the charity event.
The dogs fall asleep after the girls get seated, but it turns out the fashion show is Manhattan's West Side Annual Cat Rescue Fashion Fundraiser. Cats walk down the runway, followed by Gato and Rafa. Rafa gets a warm applause. Gato sees the sleeping dogs, wakes them up by barking at them, and then chases them. The dogs run backstage and chase the cats. The audience runs away after the dogs and cats cause chaos. Malibu and Brooklyn say they will help Rafa clean up the mess, but the event planner wants them to leave. Rafa offered to pay for damage to the venue.
Malibu and Brooklyn were paid in advance to walk the dogs. They give Rafa the money they earned, since it was his idea for them to walk dogs, and it was their idea to bring the dogs to the charity event. They send Rafa all the money they have. Malibu and Brooklyn have to find another way to earn money, but they remain optimistic since they are happy with their first song. Rafa says they need help from someone who understands them and can point them in the right direction. They convince him to be their manager and say they will pay him with Brooklyn's parents' food. Gato chases the dogs again.
