Amelia was soon to be crowned queen of Floravia, but felt overly controlled by her royal life. She watched Barbie's vlog and noticed that they looked alike, so she wanted to meet Barbie and switch places with her for a week, so Amelia could experience a normal life for a week before becoming queen. Principal Miller announced during an assembly that Golden Beach High had been selected to participate in the first ever Malibu-Floravia Cultural Exchange. Floravia offered to host Barbie and her friends for an all-expenses paid dream trip for a week, accompanied by Principal Miller.
