"Festival Fiasco" is the ninth episode of the second season of Barbie: It Takes Two. It is the twenty-second episode overall. It was released on October 1, 2022 on Netflix US.[3]

Story[]
Malibu and Brooklyn are going to perform at the California Music & Food Festival, so the girls are at the Dreamhouse packing their bags. Malibu is excited because she grew up watching singers perform there. Brooklyn says Rafa did a great job booking this gig for them. Rafa texts the girls that he wishes he could be there, but since he can't, he sends them a checklist to make sure they're are ready for the show. The girls pack their bags and Brooklyn makes sure to pack carrots to snack on, as well as a sewing kit. She says she was taught to "pack like a pro" by Simone, who is a pilot. Malibu's phone buzzes and Brooklyn assumes it's Ken. Brooklyn points out that Malibu hasn't seen Ken since he wrote her a love letter. Malibu admits she never responded to the letter because she kept second-guessing everything she wrote, so she'd rather speak to Ken in person.
George is excited for the festival. He is going to enter the Chilli Cook-Off and makes his family taste-test his chilli recipes. His update of the traditional family recipe came 2nd place last year. He also has a brand new recipe. Malibu and Brooklyn think the new recipe is better, and George is confident that his new secret ingredient blend will win 1st place this year. George puts his secret ingredient blend in a jar with a red X on it because he doesn't trust the Reardons. Malibu tells Brooklyn that the Reardons live next door and have won the Chilli Cook-Off three years in a row. George shushes Malibu in case the Reardons are spying on them. They hear a horn outside and George goes to see what it is. Poppy taunts George and says she will win the Chill Cook-Off. George is surprised the Reardons are leaving early for the festival. George and the Roberts family leave for the festival immediately, leaving Malibu and Brooklyn to make their own way there so they don't have to rush.
In the camper, Stacie wonders if The Barbies will let her play backup guitar. Skipper, Chelsea and Blissa wince when Stacie strums the guitar, and Chelsea covers Blissa's ears. The Roberts arrive at the festival, and George and Whittaker immediately begin antagonizing each other. Blissa chases after a rabbit, so Skipper, Stacie and Chelsea follow. Malibu and Brooklyn start driving to the festival in Malibu's car. Ken phones Malibu to show her that there's a large poster of The Barbies. He goes to reserve seats in the front row. After the phone call, Brooklyn thinks Malibu and Ken need to talk. Malibu says they will. At the festival, George can't find his secret ingredient blend. He realizes he left it at home. Margaret phones Malibu and Brooklyn to ask them to bring the secret ingredient, but they tell her they've already left.
Malibu turns her car around to go home and get the secret ingredient since there's still hours before the big performance. A wire hanger on the road gives the car a flat tire. It will take too long to get a professional to change the tire, so Malibu and Brooklyn do it themselves. Meanwhile, Stacie and Chelsea are playing and they see Poppy, Whittaker and Trey spying on George. Trey overheard that George forgot his secret ingredient. Trey thinks there's no chance George will win. Stacie and Chelsea try to think of ways to sabotage the Reardons. Skipper overhears and says the Roberts will win fairly. Malibu and Brooklyn retrieve the secret ingredient from the Dreamhouse. Brooklyn almost drops it, but catches it before it falls. She credits her catch to playing little league softball when she was 10. George is angry when he finds out the Reardons were spying on him, but Skipper calms him down. He doesn't want to wait for Malibu and Brooklyn to bring the secret ingredient, so he improvises a new blend by having his daughters go around the festival getting new ingredients.
After taking a back route to avoid a traffic jam, Malibu and Brooklyn lose the signal on their GPS. Brooklyn thinks that taking the scenic route will give Malibu time to think of what she'll say to Ken. Ken finds Margaret and she worriedly explains that George only has an hour to make a chilli recipe as good as the one he spent a year creating. Margaret wishes Malibu and Brooklyn would come back with the secret ingredient jar. Malibu and Brooklyn get a signal but only have an hour before their performance. Several goats walk onto the road, so they can't drive forward. Brooklyn elongates the wire that gave them a flat tire and uses her sewing kit to attach some carrots. They lure the goats back to the pen they're supposed to be in and then drive to the festival. Trey brings the Roberts some napkins and says they can use them to dry their tears when they lose the Chilli Cook-Off. Malibu and Brooklyn arrive in time to give George his secret ingredient blend. With only 3 minutes to go before the chilli is judged and the big performance begins, George adds his secret ingredient to the chilli and Malibu and Brooklyn get changed in the camper.
At the ampitheatre, Ken and Malibu's sisters are front row for The Barbies performance. The Barbies perform a new song inspired by Ken's love letter, with lyrics about being honest and expressing your feelings. Trey can't resist dancing, but stops when his parents glare at him. After the performance, everyone but the Reardons applauds and cheers. Everyone leaves but Ken stays behind. Malibu and Ken wave at each other and Brooklyn leaves to give them a moment alone. Ken reflects on the lyrics and agrees that it's important to be honest about your feelings. Malibu says she's been wanting to talk to him about her feelings, and holds Ken's hand. Before she can say anything, Skipper interrupts because it's time for the Chilli Cook-Off results. Brooklyn is disappointed that Skipper interrupted, and Malibu and Ken go to see the results. It was a close competition but the Roberts family wins 1st place in the Chilli Cook-Off, with the Reardons coming 2nd. Trey is shocked, Poppy is angry, and Whittaker is furious. Trey comes over to try the Roberts' chilli and Skipper gives him the napkins in case he wants to cry over the loss. Trey glares at her and the Roberts eat their chilli with Brooklyn and Ken.
