Monsieur Etienne Cheynet is a character in Barbie & Her Sisters in A Pony Tale. He is voiced by Colin Murdock. Etienne is a champion jockey and he is the riding master of Alpine Academy, a horse-riding school in the Swiss Alps. His mother Bridgette Cheynet owns rival school Ecole Montagne, where Etienne's brother Philippe's brother is the riding master.
Story[]
Barbie, Skipper, Stacie and Chelsea visit their aunt Marlene's Alpine Riding Academy for the summer. While Marlene and her children Marie and Max greet the girls, Etienne interrupts to complain about some fly bonnets being the wrong color and having the wrong stitching. Etienne thinks the fly bonnets will cause Alpine's horses to be too embarrassed to compete in the upcoming Inter-Academy Equestrian Tournament.
Etienne takes Barbie and her sisters horse-riding. Barbie sees a horse with a pink streak in her mane. Barbie later notices that the Alpine logo looks like the horse. She overhears Etienne singing and follows his voice. Barbie sees Etienne singing "Fais dodo" to a horse named Reynaud to help him relax. Barbie asks Etienne about the logo and he tells the fable of the Majestique, an ancient herd of strong, fast wild horses. He says they have a distinctive pink streak in their manes. Etienne compares the Majestique to fantasy creature such as fairies and mermaids, but he thinks he saw one as a child.
Philippe interrupts and claims the Majestique are just a fairy tale. Etienne and Philippe bicker. Before Philippe leaves, he gives Etienne a sweater on behalf of their mother, who told Etienne to wear it because it is chilly. Etienne says to tell her that he liked the soup she made him. Philippe asks if Etienne liked the baguette, but Etienne didn't receive it because Philippe ate it. When Philippe is alone, he leaves to privately look at an old photo of him and Etienne together. Philippe spots a Majestique horse in the background and laughs to himself.
Etienne teaches Stacie how to brush and ride a horse, but Stacie struggles. Barbie finds the Majestique horse she saw and sees she is injured. Barbie sings "Fais dodo" to calm down the horse and then helps the horse with her injury. Barbie names the horse Majesty and they become friends. Marlene reveals to Skipper that she may have to sell Alpine Academy due to low enrolment. Marlene received an offer from Bridgette and assumes it was Philippe's idea, since he has still not forgiven Etienne for coming to work at Alpine. If Marlene does not win the substantial prize money from the upcoming Inter-Academy Equestrian Tournament, she will have to accept Bridgette's offer. Alpine usually loses to Ecole Montagne.
Skipper wants Barbie and Majesty to race Philippe in the tournament so that Alpine will have a stronger chance at winning, but Barbie declines. Barbie reassures Skipper that Etienne is a champion rider and he will ride for Alpine like he traditionally does. During the first day of the tournament, Etienne shows support from the crowd while Chelsea, Skipper and Chelsea compete. Philippe laughs at Etienne when Stacie comes 2nd place to an Ecole Montagne student. Etienne praises Stacie. That evening, Alpine hosts the Inter-Academy Formal Dance. Etienne attends and fixes a dancing student's posture, then bickers with Philippe. Philippe then secretly unlocks a horse corral.
Chelsea tries to ride one of the horses in the corral unsupervised, and the horse begins panicking and kicking. After hearing Chelsea screaming, Barbie runs outside with Etienne, Stacie, Skipper, Marlene, and Jonas of Ecole Montagne. The horse kicks the corral door open and kicks Etienne in the arm. The horses escape and Marlene says she will have a doctor look at Etienne's arm. Barbie, Skipper and Jonas track down the horses and find them at the Valley of the Majestiques. On the way back to Alpine, they encounter Philippe. Philippe can tell that the Valley of the Majestique is nearby and that Barbie knows its location, but she plays coy. Philippe says he only pretended the Majestique were a fairy tale for Etienne's benefit.
Philippe plans on winning the steeplechase on the last day of the tournament so that Alpine Academy and the Alpine land will be sold to Ecole Montagne, and then he will be able to freely search for the Majestique. Jonas says Etienne will beat Philippe, but Philippe reveals that Etienne's arm is broken so he can't compete. On the final day of the tournament, the concluding event is the steeplechase. Barbie wants to protect the Majestique and win the prize money for Marlene. Before Barbie shows up, an announcer says Alpine will not be competing in the steeplechase. Etienne apologizes to Marlene and she responds that they did their best. Barbie shows up just in time with Majesty to race Philippe and his horse Hurricane. Etienne and Marlene are in surprised to see a Majestique horse. Philippe taunts Etienne before the race.
Philippe cheats several times during the race, including tearing Majesty's saddle. Barbie falls to the ground hard and Marlene has to stop Etienne from climbing over the barrier in anger. Barbie gets back on Majesty and wins the race. Etienne bickers with Philippe over the latter's cheating, and then their mother Bridgette sends Philippe to his room. Etienne is in awe of Majesty and points her out to his mother. He mentions the legend. Bridgette says she knows and that Majesty is beautiful. Bridgette quickly changes the subject to some soup she made for Etienne, and he asks if he gets baguette this time.

- (About fly bonnets) "Catastrophe! Disaster! Calamity! C'est choquant, quelle horreur! Madame Marlene, we are ruined!"
- "How are we supposed to win a tournament with clashing fly bonnets? Even the flies will be laughing at us!"
- "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, mamselle. We swoop with the curry comb, not attack, hm? Long curving motions, ah, comme ca, and swoop, oui? And swoop, yes? Bend the knees and swoop, ah?"
- "Reign back, Mademoiselle Barbie! No faster than a walk, please. We must make certain everyone is riding at the same pace, n'est-ce pas?"
- "Philippe! How dare you defile my stable! You, you festering boil on a baboon's backside!"
- (Teaching Stacie) "Again. Straighten up, mamselle Stacie. Legs pressed together, weight forward. Ah, tres bien. Now pull your horse back to a walk, then stop."
- "Excellent form, Marie, as always! Pity you are too young to compete, hmm? Mamselle Stacie, you are next. Remember, you and your mount are as one. You must be the horse!"
