Dori is a minor character in Barbie & The Diamond Castle. She is a Muse of Music, and lives alongside Phaedra and Melody in the Diamond Castle. She was voiced by Nicole Oliver in the film.

Story

Dori is a spirit of music, alongside Phaedra, Melody and Lydia, who used to be just like her before the latter betrayed them. They are known formally as Muses of Music, and the original trio were Dori herself, Phaedra and the late Lydia, and they took care of their home, the Diamond Castle and were friends, creating and singing incredible songs, while teaching the young apprentice Melody the arts of music and how to be a real muse someday.

One day, Lydia revealed her true colors and the desire of being the only muse. She went against her two best friends and vowed to conquer the Diamond Castle only to herself. She fled it and eventually met her sidekick, a serpent named Slyder. She also found an ancient cave filled with dark magic and sealed her degradation from a good spirit of music into a witch by turning her individual instrument, a flute, into a powerful weapon of darkness. With her newfound powers, she came back to her former home, the Diamond Castle, to destroy and spread her dark magic through the walls of her own birthplace.

Dori and Phaedra then casted a spell that submerged the Diamond Castle under the magically created lake and that spell sealed it, completely invisible from Lydia or others. They also left their magical instruments inside the castle, in hope of them also being safe from Lydia. However, both muses trusted their apprentice, Melody, and gave her the key to restore the Diamond Castle to its rightful place on the surface. Dori and Phaedra, the remaining muses, gave Lydia a last chance of forgiveness by trying to solve Lydia's own conflict with them. Despite this, she used her weapon of dark magic to turn both muses into stone statues. Eventually, their apprentice was watching them from afar, until Lydia realized her presence, and ordered Slyder to kidnap her. Melody ran away and used her magic to hide in a mirror belonging to an old peddler. Unfortunately, she lost her flute and was unable to get out of her prison, because Slyder accidentally broke it.

Lydia was furious that her former apprentice escaped. Despite this, she came back to her lair, in the ancient cave filled with dark magic and brought Dori and Phaedra, now stone statues, with her. Melody was trapped and doesn't revealed herself to nobody. Some time later, the Magic Mirror would fall in the hands of a peasant girl, named Liana. Melody then revealed herself for the first time since her imprisonment and told them about her birthplace, the Diamond Castle, and her former tutors, Dori and Phaedra. She also told Liana and her best-friend, Alexa about how dangerous Lydia could be and that destruction would spread all over the world if her dark magic could reach the muses' instruments. After a long time, Melody was finally happy to find new friends who shared her companion and the love for music.

After Lydia and her sidekick Slyder are defeated and turned into stone statues as a punishment for everything they did, all of Lydia's dark spells were broken and Dori and Phaedra came back to their old selves, finally free of the imprisonment as stone statues. They return to the Diamond Castle and meets Liana, Alexa, Ian, Jeremy and the puppies. They share a warm reunion with Melody and formally declares her a real muse. They also gives the twin brothers modern guitars, and crowns Liana and Alexa princesses of music, aside from giving them magical seeds that sprouted into flowers with diamonds. After the human beings and puppies were gone, the muses Dori, Phaedra and Melody keeps looking after the Diamond Castle and taking care of the children, at the same time fulfilling their duties as spirits of music.

Powers and Abilities

As a Muse of Music, it is reasonable and logical to deduce that Dori had the ability to cast powerful magic from the musical instrument she played (the lyre), though she never demonstrated it on the film. This theory is plausible, as Lydia (another Muse of Music) was able to cast magic through her flute, and Melody, the apprentice Muse, was also able to cast magic through her whistle.

As seen by the final confrontation between Liana, Alexa, Melody, and Lydia, when Dori's lyre is played in conjunction with Phaedra's guitar and a song of goodness, it is able to generate a powerful expansive forcefield that could deflect all magical attacks from other musical instruments of darkness, and even break all the spells cast by those instruments.
