Official Description[]
"Business is bad at Buddy's Cafe, so Malibu and Brooklyn call their pop star pal Emmie to help save the place with some social media buzz, but the results may be too good for the small cafe to handle."[4]
Story[]
After The Barbies' successful performance at the California Music & Food Festival, Rafa has been contacted a lot about The Barbies. He makes a to-do list of things that will keep people interested in The Barbies. The list includes being featured on Handler's social media accounts, making connections with local venues, and designing merchandise. Malibu and Brooklyn have already done everything. Rafa feels like they don't need him to manage them anymore. In Buddy's Cafe, Epiphany comforts Buddy because he can't afford the rent for the cafe. He worries he will have to close down. Brooklyn offers to take side gigs to help Buddy pay the rent, but Rafa says money from side gigs should go towards finishing The Barbies' music demo. Brooklyn phones Emmie in hopes she can promote Buddy's Cafe, and Buddy goes to see his landlord to ask for more time paying the rent. Epiphany is optimistic that they will find the perfect solution.
Emmie comes to Buddy's Cafe and posts a video online saying she will be there all day signing autographs and taking selfies with fans. Rafa thinks he overheard Malibu and Brooklyn tell Emmie that they love her manager. Emmie says she can get them an appointment, but the girls want to check with Rafa first. Rafa is sad they want to replace him, but ultimately wants the girls to succeed, so he is willing to step aside in order for them to have a more experienced manager. Stefan mimes that Rafa should talk to Malibu and Brooklyn directly instead of assuming they want to replace him. Rafa misunderstands and plans to deliberately be a terrible manager so the girls can fire him without feeling bad.
Emmie signs several autographs but no one buys any food. Emmie says they should've made a rule about having to buy a pastry before meeting her. They implement the rule and Rafa says he should've thought of it. He reminds Malibu and Brooklyn of the chaotic gig he previously booked them with Magnifico the magician. Brooklyn and Malibu tell him not to be hard on himself. Emma, a student at Handler Arts Academy, is Emmie's biggest fan. Emma buys 30 pastries so she can have 30 selfies with Emmie. Emma lets Malibu and Brooklyn give the extra pastries to people waiting in line, and then has fun taking selfies with Emmie. Malibu and Brooklyn tell Rafa and Epiphany to take orders and handle the drinks at the counter. Malibu, Brooklyn and Stefan try to bake more pastries.
Malibu and Brooklyn are not used to professional kitchens and Stefan isn't much help. Epiphany advises Rafa to talk to Malibu and Brooklyn and check on the pastries they're making. Rafa lies to Malibu and Brooklyn that he once almost ruined their career, but they find the story funny. They make a lumpy batch of dough but don't have time to roll it out again, so they bake it as it is. Emma and Emmie get along well and Emma thinks they're like sisters. Rafa shows Epiphany the lumpy pastries, but she believes all creations are valuable. Malibu, Brooklyn and Stefan manage to make a good batch of pastries, but Rafa accidentally ruins the batch. A customer demands a refund after she buys a lumpy pastry, and customers leave after they see the newer, ruined batch. Epiphany tries to swat away the bad energy in the cafe.
Brooklyn nervously adds too much yeast to the pastry dough when Epiphany says the pastries are driving away the customers. Rafa tries to pin the blame on himself. After Rafa exits the kitchen, Malibu and Brooklyn leave Stefan to bake while they figure out why Rafa is acting weird. The pastry dough rises so much that Stefan runs out of the kitchen to alert everyone. Malibu and Brooklyn think he is miming, so they ignore him. Rafa admits he thinks Malibu and Brooklyn want to replace him as their manager. They laugh at him and say they told Emmie they loved her manicure. Brooklyn says they even wanted to take Rafa with them to thank him for everything he's done for them. They wanted to check with Rafa first because Emmie's manicurist is very busy and only has one time slot open. Malibu and Brooklyn say they never want to replace Rafa, and they have a group hug. Epiphany joins in because she wants to soak in the good energy.
The pastry dough has risen so much that it's overtaking the kitchen. Rafa charges in and resolves the issue. Everyone cheers as he hacks the dough apart and creates a new snack he calls puffins (puffy muffins). The puffins are so good that the customers take pictures with them instead of Emmie. Buddy returns and announces that he can pay the rent later in the week. He is surprised that the cafe is full, and Epiphany says the good reviews will draw more customers. Buddy thanks Rafa for creating the puffins and goes to the kitchen to try and recreate the recipe, but he is shocked at the state of the kitchen.
