This is a subpage for a transcript of Barbie of Swan Lake. In some releases of the film, Kelly is named Shelly.

Prologue[]

The movie begins with "Scène" playing over the opening credits. At night, we see Barbie checking in on a group of sleeping young girls in a cabin in the woods. When she notices one bed is empty, Barbie looks up and sees that Kelly is sitting outside by herself. Barbie joins Kelly where she’s sitting.

Barbie:

What’s wrong, Kelly?

Kelly, dejected:

I can’t sleep. The bed’s all bumpy.

Barbie:

I remember my first sleep-away camp. It takes a day or two to get used to things.

Kelly:

I’ll never get used to it!

Barbie:

But you were looking forward to race day tomorrow. You’re part of the team!

Kelly:

Somebody else can run for me.

Barbie puts her arm around Kelly.

Barbie:

It wouldn’t be the same without you. We’d really miss you!

Kelly leans against Barbie.

Kelly:

I just want to go home!

Barbie frowns at Kelly, then looks up at the sky.

Barbie, pointing:

Look over there, do you see those two big stars, and the four little ones in a row?

Kelly looks where Barbie is pointing, then back at her.

Kelly:

Sort of.

The camera cuts to a shot of the stars as Barbie continues speaking.

Barbie:

Well, that’s the constellation Cygnus. It’s a swan. Imagine the four stars are the long neck, the big stars are the body, and running crosswise, those stars are the wings.

As she explains the constellation, the shape of the swan is traced over the stars. The camera cuts back to Kelly.

Kelly, surprised:

I see it!

Barbie:

Did you know there was once a girl who turned into a swan?

The camera pans up from the two sisters.

Kelly:

She did? How?

Barbie:

Her name was Odette.

The sky changes from a starry night to a sunny day as the camera pans down to show a bustling village. "Swan Lake Waltz" plays.

Barbie:

She worked in the family bakery with her sister and her father.

Kelly:

But you said she was a swan.

Barbie laughs.

Barbie:

Not at first.

Introducing Odette[]

The camera changes to a shot of the bakery’s exterior, showing a pair of children running up to the window to see Odette, played by Barbie, as she wears blue and white dress with white high heel dress shoes, as she places a pie in the window. She waves at them. She takes a plate of rolls from the display and carries them into the bakery, waltzing to herself as she goes. She sets the tray down and continues to dance around the store. She doesn’t immediately notice her father when he walks in, carrying a plate of freshly baked cookies.

Odette:

Oh! Papa!

Her father hands her the plate of cookies.

Baker:

Odette, you’re a wonderful dancer. You should go to the village dances with your sister.

Odette:

And have everybody stare at me? I--I couldn’t.

Baker:

Ah, but you’d have fun and--

He stops mid-sentence when he smells something burning.

Baker:

Oh! The Cornbread!

Odette takes one of the cookies from the plate.

Baker:

Sugar cookies, your favorite.

Kelly, interjecting:

Make it chocolate chip. That’s my favorite.

Barbie:

Okay.

In Odette’s hand the tray of sugar cookies magically changes to chocolate chip cookies. Odette eats one.

Odette:

Mmm, chocolate chip. You work too hard, papa.

The Baker chuckles.

Baker:

What can I do? You and Marie keep eating the inventory.

Just then, outside the window, a woman on a horse rides into town. Odette gasps as the woman’s horse leaps over a pile of brambles and speeds down the cobblestone street before stopping outside the bakery. Odette goes out and meets her.

Odette:

Any faster and you’ll be flying!

Marie:

That’s the idea! Come on, I’m heading out again-- you’ll love it!

Odette:

Uh, thanks, but--

Before Odette can finish her sentence, Marie’s horse whinnies and rears up, startling her.

Marie:

“No thanks”, right?

Odette:

Right.

Odette hands Marie a small satchel.

Odette:

Thought you might want breakfast, Marie.

Marie opens the satchel and looks inside.

Marie:

Apple muffin, juice. You’re gold, Odette!

Odette smiles bashfully at the compliment. Marie grasps the reins of her horse and takes off down the street.

Marie:

I’ll be back to help soon!

Odette watches her leave as their father walks out to meet her.

Baker:

Was that your sister?

Odette:

Here and gone, papa. Flying like the wind.

Prince Daniel[]

A nearby bird flies off of a rooftop and soars towards the palace, which sits atop a hill surrounded by a moat. It circles a fountain on the grounds before landing on a haybale painted with a target. An arrow hits the target, scaring the bird away.

Reggie:

Oh-ho-ho-kay. But can you make it four for four?

Daniel:

What do you say I hit that top sack over there?

Reggie laughs.

Reggie:

All ze way over there?

Reggie continues laughing as the camera zooms out to show the distance between the prince and his target, a pile of grain sacks on a cart across the grounds from them.

Reggie:

Are you kidding? It’s impossible!

Daniel:

Ah, my favorite word!

Daniel draws an arrow and looses it, the arrow whizzing through the gaps on a statue before landing in the topmost sack.

Reggie:

Amazing! Oh-ho-ho, Amazing, your highness!

Daniel bows dramatically to his friend.

Daniel:

Thank you, Reggie!

Just then, Daniel’s mother, the Queen, walks out of a large set of doors near the cart. Just as she walks near the cart the arrow slits the bag of grain and spills its contents onto her.

The Queen:

Oh my!

She shoots a glare at Daniel.

The Queen:

Hmph!

Daniel, embarrassed, hands his bow to Reggie who shakes his head and smiles. Daniel rushes to his mother’s side.

Daniel, chuckling:

Mother!...Sorry.

The Queen:

More target practice?

She brushes some of the grain from her sleeves before handing a stack of letters to Daniel.

The Queen:

I came to give you these. They’re all responses from princesses coming to the Royal Ball.

Daniel sighs deeply.

The Queen:

Eligible Princesses. You need to pick a bride.

Daniel:

Ah, but--

The Queen, interrupting him:

Well I’m tired, son. Soon you’ll take over the throne! I want to spend my golden years spoiling my grandchildren.

Daniel:

Mother, you know I’ll marry someday, but first I want to do so much! Explore, travel…

The Queen:

And so you shall!...After my grandchildren.

She pats him on the face and leaves. The camera cuts back to the little bird from before which lands in the open window of the bakery to watch Odette dancing with a tray of bread loaves, humming the waltz theme. It mimics her movements, chirping and twirling on the windowsill before losing its footing and falling into a bowl of flour.

Odette, laughing.

Hey, you!

The bird shakes to dust itself off, sending a cloud of flour into the air.

Odette:

Okay, okay!

She pets the bird before releasing it out the front door of the bakery.

Odette:

There you go.

Chasing Lila[]

It chirps as it flies away. Suddenly, a round of gasps comes from a nearby crowd as a purple unicorn runs across the bridge through the center of town. It stops to stare at Odette for a moment.

Odette, in awe:

I don’t believe it!

A group of hunters are seen chasing after the unicorn. It tries to run away but is cut off by a man. It rears up and whinnies as he snaps a rope at it like a whip. The unicorn dodges him and runs down a nearby alley. One of the hunters pulls out a bow and nocks an arrow.

Odette:

Wait, you’ll hurt it!

The man pays her no mind and looses his arrow, which the Unicorn narrowly dodges. It runs further up the street and notices a man hauling a cart of timber further up the road. It nickers and charges the cart, sending the logs cascading down the road towards the hunters. With the impression that it had outwitted the hunters, the unicorn prances in a circle with a grin on its face. A lasso suddenly snaps around the neck of the unicorn, pulling it to the ground.

Man with the lasso:

Got it! A real unicorn! This should fetch a pretty price, eh?

Odette:

No!

The unicorn spies an axe lodged in a stump nearby and bolts towards it, using the blade to sever the rope between it and the man. The man stumbles backwards and crashes into a crate of fruit which falls around him. The unicorn hides around a corner to make sure it’s no longer being pursued before making its way back towards the path out of town. On it’s way the unicorn glances at Odette again before taking off into the forest. The rope around its neck gets caught on several branches and shrubs as it runs, and Odette decides to follow it into the woods. Odette runs in the rock in the pond. It leads her further into the forest until stopping at a chasm bridged by a fallen tree. It begins to cross the tree towards the waterfall on the other side, but stumbles. Odette runs from where she was hiding towards the bridge to try and help it, but freezes when she sees the chasm below. The unicorn stumbles again and Odette rushes along the bridge to aid it.

Odette:

Hold on!

The Enchanted Forest[]

The unicorn notices Odette and nickers, pushing itself to its feet before running the rest of the way to the other side behind the waterfall. Using its horn it opens a secret passage into a cave, which it enters. Curious, Odette follows it inside before the passageway closes. The cave leads out into a large clearing, hosting a lake surrounded by willow trees and glistening waterfalls, which Odette admires for a moment. Odette hears the distressed whinny of the unicorn and follows it. She eventually finds the unicorn again, the rope around its neck now tangled in a pile of brambles.

Odette:

Hold still!

Lila, the Unicorn:

Easy for you to say. You’re not getting strangled!

Odette:

You… talk?

Lila huffs.

Lila, sarcastically:

Of course. Now, are you gonna stand around with your mouth open or cut me loose?

Odette:

Okay…

Lila:

Ugh, nevermind, I’ll do it myself.

She pulls on the rope and it tightens around her neck.

Lila:

Ouch!

Odette:

Hang on! I’ll uh… cut it with something!

Lila, hoarsely:

Sure… you do that.

Odette wanders around for a moment, looking for something sharp to cut the rope. She comes across a large tree, growing atop a square structure. Something glimmers amongst the roots which catches her eye. When she goes to inspect it, she doesn’t notice that she’s being watched. A mysterious floating woman and a group of forest creatures are seen nearby, gazing at Odette as she approaches the tree.

Ivan, the porcupine:

It’s a human! Right here! A human!

Odette finds the source of the glimmer, a teardrop shaped jewel is lodged between the roots. She reaches out to take it. A skunk elbows Ivan.

Carlita, the skunk:

No, no! Somebody stop her! Ah! Tell me when it’s over!

The Fairy Queen:

No, watch.

You Have the Wrong Girl[]

With little to no effort, Odette frees the jewel from it’s resting place. The animals all gasp in surprise. The group watches Odette as she returns to Lila. The unicorn’s eyes widen and she gasps as she sees what Odette is carrying.

Lila:

Where did you get that?

Odette:

That big tree over there.

Lila, astounded:

You mean… you just took it out?

Odette:

I’m sorry, I’ll put it right back!

The Fairy Queen drifts over to them as Odette uses the Jewel’s sharp edge to free Lila from the hunter’s rope.

Odette:

There, I thought that would do the trick!

Lila shakes the rope from her neck, then faces the Fairy Queen.

Lila:

Did you see that, your highness? Did you? She used the Crystal!

Odette, flustered:

I’m...terribly sorry.

The Fairy Queen:

Please, don’t apologize, we’ve been waiting for you for a long time.

Odette:

Me?

The Fairy Queen:

First, let me thank you for helping Lila.

She turns to the Unicorn.

The Fairy Queen:

And you, you know better than to venture into the human world! A creature from the Enchanted Forest can be--

Lila, interrupting:

I know...Killed by a human.

She rolls her eyes and scoffs.

Lila, dramatically:

It’s all over! (she gasps) I’m done for! (She coughs ) Goodbye, world!

She coughs and gasps a few more times before flopping to the ground.

The Fairy Queen:

What am I going to do with you?

Lila:

I just wanted to help! I thought there might be something in the village to fight ol’ bird-brain.

The Fairy Queen turns to Odette.

The Fairy Queen:

What is your name, my dear?

Odette:

Odette.

The Fairy Queen:

Well Odette, do you know what you have in your hand?

Odette:

I...I was just going to return it!

The Fairy Queen:

The Magic Crystal belongs to you now.

Lila, unconvinced:

To her? How is she gonna save us?

Odette:

You must have me mixed up with somebody else.

The Fairy Queen:

Years ago, my cousin Rothbart lived in the Enchanted Forest with us…

The camera zooms in on the Magic Crystal, and reveals a silhouetted flashback to the Fairy Queen’s youth. A young Fairy Queen and Rothbart are shown playing together in the forest.

The Fairy Queen:

When it came time for our uncle, the King, to choose his successor, he picked me instead of my cousin.

Another silhouetted vision is shown of the Fairy Queen and Rothbart, now older and standing alongside their uncle. He points to the Fairy Queen, and Rothbart turns away angrily.

The Fairy Queen:

Rothbart was furious. He stormed out of the forest.

Rothbart is shown walking away, the grass beneath his feet shriveling and turning grey. The vision changes again to reveal a doe drinking from the lake.

The Fairy Queen:

For many years all was well. Then Rothbart returned with his daughter Odile.

A dark haze crosses over the water, scaring the doe away.

The Fairy Queen:

Now a master of the dark arts, he began taking over the forest, piece by piece.

A silhouetted image of Rothbart and Odile is shown as he uses his magic ring to destroy the ground around them.

The Fairy Queen:

I tried to force him to leave, but his dark powers were overwhelming.

Another vision reveals a band of elves and fairies as they run to face Rothbart. He cackles evilly,

The Fairy Queen:

Several of my bravest fairies and elves tried to stop him, but he transformed them into animals, and forced them to build his new palace.

Rothbart’s palace is shown as a group of crows fly towards it. The vision ends and we return to the present.

The Fairy Queen:

With every prisoner he takes, Rothbart’s powers grow stronger.

Lila:

But now that you’re here…

Odette:

...I don’t understand…

The Fairy Queen:

It’s been foretold that the one who frees the Magic Crystal will overcome Rothbart and save the forest. But nobody has ever been able to pull the crystal from the tree, Odette. Until today.

The forest creatures approach eagerly.

Ivan:

It’s you, You! Our hero! Give me hug!

Carlita scampers in front of him.

Carlita:

Quills, Ivan! Quills!

Ivan:

Oh, right! Heh heh, right.

Lila:

Well, she doesn’t look like much to me, but… maybe.

Odette, anxiously:

Wait! Please! You have the wrong girl, I can’t be the one. I haven’t overcome anybody in my life! I wish I could help, but…

Lila:

Hmph! I knew it.

The Fairy Queen:

Lila, please. We can’t force her. The dangers are enormous.

Odette hands the Magic Crystal to the Fairy Queen.

Odette:

I’m really sorry, I’ve got to get back. My family will be looking for me.

The Fairy Queen:

I understand, Odette. Lila will show you the way out.

Lila huffs irritably. Odette passes by the creatures and frowns.

Odette:

Goodbye...I’m sorry.

She walks away.

Carlita:

It’s over. Over! Done. Finished! Oof, I’m getting a migraine…

Lila crosses to the Fairy Queen.

Lila:

You really think she has something special, don’t you?

She sighs as two ominous crows watch from out of sight.

Lila:

Alright, I’ll see what I can do.

The crows nod to each other before flying away. The scene changes to Lila and Odette leaving the forest. Lila leaps onto a large stone.

Lila:

You know, if I had the Magic Crystal, I’d nail Rothbart!

She swings her horn like a sword.

Lila:

En garde, bird-brain! Épée, ha-ha! Coupé, aha! Coulé! ha-ha!

She jumps, getting her horn stuck in a branch.

Lila, sheepishly:

Oopsé?

She drops from the branch, chuckling awkwardly.

Lila:

Uh, just...keeping my horn sharp.

Odette:

It’s just…I...I’m not brave like you.

Lila:

Well, that’s true... nobody is braver than I, but… Hmm, I suppose I could help you.

Encountering Rothbart/Odette's Transformation[]

They stop walking when they begin to hear the sound of flapping wings. When they look up they see a pair of large birds which land before them. The larger of the two birds spreads its wings and transforms into Rothbart. He looks to the smaller one as it transforms into his daughter, Odile. Rothbart laughs at the sight of Odette.

Rothbart:

Look, Odile! Now this is pathetic!

Odile laughs a shrill laugh.

Odile:

Pathetic!

Rothbart:

A little bird whispered in my ear that some human girl freed the Magic Crystal.

He leans closer to Odette’s face, causing her to step back nervously.

Rothbart:

It couldn’t be you.

Lila, smirking:

Feathers a bit ruffled, Rothbart?

Rothbart, mockingly:

Ooh, my days are numbered, I’m shaking in my boots!

Odile giggles.

Lila:

Go ahead, laugh all you want! But Odette and I are gonna throw you two right outta the forest!

Odette, quietly:

Lila, shh!

Lila:

Oh, yeah, Odette’s gonna have you two for breakfast, ‘cause you two are toast.

Rothbart:

And here, I thought unicorns were…

His eyes narrow and begin to glow red menacingly.

Rothbart, darkly:

...shy.

He turns to Odile.

Rothbart:

Odile, my little pigeon? How would you like a new feather pillow?

Odile cackles gleefully.

Odile:

Anytime!

Rothbart returns his gaze to Odette. She and Lila step back slightly. Rothbart’s magic ring ignites with red energy as he raises his fist to the air. The energy coalesces around the ring before he thrusts his hand forward at Odette. Crackling red magic and conjured images of ravens swarm about her. The magic suddenly glows white as her human form begins to melt away. When the magical light fades, she’s left as a swan.

Odette:

Ohh!

Lila:

Odette!

Odette stumbles backwards, not used to her new feet. She sighs deeply. Rothbart laughs at his handiwork.

Rothbart, haughtily:

Look at the great hero of the forest!

He plucks a feather from Odette’s wing, causing her to yelp in pain.

Lila, angrily:

Hey, lay off!

She runs into Rothbart to distract him before running away.

Lila:

Go! Go, Odette!

Rothbart turns back around to see the swan flying away across the lake.

The Fairy Queen’s voice:

Over here, Odette.

Odette lands in the water and swims towards the bank. The Fairy Queen glides over the ground towards her and places a small circlet upon her head with the Magic Crystal in the center.

The Fairy Queen:

We came as quickly as we could. This crown will protect you.

Rothbart, to the Fairy Queen:

Ah, the Queen of Nothing.

The Fairy Queen, to Odette:

He can do nothing more to you, as long as you wear the crystal.

Rothbart:

You still think you can interfere with my destiny? Ha! This is my forest. Mine. Just as it always should have been. Why don’t you save us all a lot of trouble and hand over the crown?

The Fairy Queen:

And see you destroy the rest of our home?

She flies over to him and gets up into his face, scowling.

The Fairy Queen, hissing:

Never.

Rothbart:

Then enjoy the show.

He chuckles to himself. The camera zooms in on his eyes, his pupils constricting.

Rothbart:

This girl’s days are over!

He swings his fist upwards, summoning energy to his ring. Everyone watches him in horror as he brings his hand back before firing a large beam of magic at Odette. There is suddenly an eruption of purple magic from the Magic Crystal, which causes Rothbart to cover his eyes. Purple sparks shower from the sky like fireworks. They all look towards the swan, who reveals herself to be unharmed. Lila and the other animals cheer. The Fairy Queen flies over to her cousin.

The Fairy Queen:

Go, Rothbart. You can do nothing here.

Rothbart, angrily:

So you think?

He and Odile transform into birds.

Rothbart:

Come, Odile.

He takes off, Odile following after him.

Odile, irritably:

What’s going on?! What about my pillow?! Daddy, wait!

The Fairy Queen Helps Odette[]

Lila whinnies before meeting Odette by the lakeside.

Lila, mimicking Rothbart:

“So you think? Come, O-dile.” (Breaking character) Oh-ho-ho-ho! Oh, did you see his face?! You got him, Odette! Oww!

Odette:

I think he got me.

Odette spreads her wings to display her new form to the others.

Lila:

Uh, yeah, well, he did score a... few points…

Odette:

What am I gonna do?

She looks at the Fairy Queen.

Odette:

Can you turn me back?

The Fairy Queen sighs somberly.

The Fairy Queen:

Oh, I wish I could… Overtime, a few lucky elves have escaped from Rothbart’s palace.

She gestures to the group of animals. Ivan steps forward.

Ivan:

It was very close but--- many thank-yous to the beautiful Carlita-- we made it!

Carlita:

Oh it was nothing… I just said to the guard: “You, come closer. I have a little something for you!” He came over and--!

She swipes her tail, hitting Ivan with her spray. He breathes it in and immediately falls to the ground.

Ivan:

Isn’t she magnificent?

The Fairy Queen:

My powers weren’t strong enough to break Rothbart’s spell completely. I was able to turn the elves back into themselves, but only from sunset till dawn.

The sun begins to set on the horizon.

Odette:

And...now?

The Fairy Queen sighs.

Odette:

Please, try. Please! I don’t want to be a swan for the rest of my life!

The Fairy Queen touches Odette’s head with the tip of her wand. A pair of sparkles spiral around her head for a moment before vanishing. As the sun dips below the horizon they all wait in silence as the animals turn back into elves and Odette remains a swan.

Lila:

Come on… work…

The magic reappears over Odette’s head and envelopes her, causing her to grow in size until the light disappears, leaving her in her human form.

Odette:

Elbows...fingers…! Thank you, thank you!

The Fairy Queen:

You realize once the sun rises tomorrow…

Odette:

...I’ll be a swan again. I can’t go home like this! I have to find a way to break this spell!

Lila:

That’s the spirit!

Ivan rushes forwards, now in his elven form, bowing to Odette.

Ivan:

We are all thanking you for helping us from the hearts of our bottoms!

Carlita joins him.

Carlita:

Er, “the bottom of our hearts”, Ivan.

Ivan:

Oh...да!

Odette, to the Fairy Queen:

There must be some secret to stopping Rothbart.

The Fairy Queen:

There is, in the Book of Forest Lore. But that book can only be opened by the bearer of the Crystal.

Odette:

Where would I find it?

The Fairy Queen turns to the elves and Lila.

The Fairy Queen:

Who will take Odette to see the Book of Forest Lore?

Ivan:

That place is too scary!

Carlita:

Nobody has been there for years!

Ivan:

It’s guarded by a big troll with huge feet!

The other elves cover their ears who shudder at the mention of the troll.

Carlita:

Very big feet!

Ivan:

And bad breath!

Carlita:

A vicious beast!

Ivan yelps and ducks behind Carlita.

Carlita:

No! No, I’ll protect you!

Ivan:

You go first!

Carlita scurries behind Ivan.

Carlita:

No, you!

Lila casually steps forward past the elves.

Lila:

Danger? Troll? I’m your girl.

The Fairy Queen taps her wand to her hand and summons a leaf with a sigil on it. She hands it to Odette.

The Fairy Queen:

The book is guarded by a troll named Erasmus. Use this to unlock the door to the vault.

Lila and Odette walk towards the trees while the elves wave to them.

At the castle[]

The scene then changes to the royal palace in the human world, where Daniel is seen sitting in a library reading a chart. He’s interrupted by the sound of someone yelling and a crash. He exits the library to see Reggie lying on the ground.

Daniel, chuckling:

What happened?

He spots the crate Reggie had been carrying.

Daniel, eagerly:

Hey, that’s it! My package arrived!

Reggie quickly stands up and stands in front of the box.

Reggie, frantically:

Uh, no, no! It’s nothing, nothing at all! Just some...dull, boring stuff!... I’ll uh… get it out of your way.

Daniel:

Why don’t we bring that dull, boring stuff into the library?

The two carry the box into the library. Upon opening it they find a square-shaped globe inside.

Daniel:

Well… they didn’t get that right.

Reggie:

Good! We don’t want to worry about what’s out there anyway! We’ve got enough to do here!

As Reggie tries to put the crate back together Daniel gazes longingly at the cube.

Daniel:

So much unexplored…

Reggie:

Uhhh, But look! Danger at every corner! Why if you go too far, you can fall right off!

Reggie walks his fingers off the edge of the cube to demonstrate his point. Daniel squats down to get a better look at the cube.

Daniel:

I think it’s filled with wonders and adventure!

Reggie:

Thank goodness your most pressing adventure is finding a princess at the royal ball.

Daniel stands up and crosses to the window, staring out into the night.

Daniel:

Well, you never know. Maybe there’s something amazing to discover… just around the corner.

Searching for Erasmus[]

We now return to Lila and Odette walking through the forest to find Erasmus.

Odette:

So exactly how scary are we talking about?

Lila:

Ha, scary doesn’t even cover it! Trolls have beady eyes, hulking bodies...oh, and they eat human flesh!

Odette:

What?!

Lila:

Er, but I’m sure that’s just a rumor!

They stop when they reach a large pair of golden doors decorated with ornate carvings.

Lila:

Okay, here we are! Have you got the leaf?

Odette holds up the leaf to the door and it shimmers with magic. After a loud rumble, the golden doors swing open. Lila begins to walk inside but pauses when she sees that Odette isn’t following her.

Lila:

Come on! Hey… You’re braver than you think.

Odette:

At least one of us thinks so.

Back at the bakery[]

She gingerly follows Lila into the vault and the golden doors close behind them. As this happens the scene shifts to the village. Marie is seen waiting anxiously by the fire when the Baker enters. She stands to meet him.

Marie:

Did you find her?

The Baker:

She isn’t back?... How did I miss her?... She must be out there somewhere!

Marie:

Wait, papa. I’ll go with you.

Erasmus's library[]

The two leave the bakery to keep looking for Odette. In the meantime Odette and Lila are seen wandering further into Erasmus’ library. Stacks of ancient books are seen piled to the ceiling all around the room. At the very end of the cavernous vault is a towering stone lectern. A figure is seen sitting behind it.

Erasmus, snarling:

Who goes there!?

Lila, nervously:

It’s, uh, me...Lila… and my friend Odette!

Erasmus:

I don’t know you… and you really don’t wanna know me!

Lila, under her breath:

No kiddin…

Lila, at a normal level:

Uh… it’s just--- Well, we, uh… need the… uh… Book of Forest Lore.

Erasmus, booming:

THE BOOK OF FOREST LOOOOORE?!

Erasmus slams his hands on the lectern, causing Lila to duck. She looks at Odette.

Lila, to Erasmus:

The Fairy Queen sent us!

Odette:

She gave us this.

Odette holds out the leaf that the Fairy Queen had given them. The sound of heavy footsteps approaches as Erasmus comes down from the massive stone lectern. When he reaches the bottom it’s revealed that he barely comes to Odette’s knees in height. Erasmus daintily snatches the leaf from Odette’s hand and sniffs it with his knobby nose. He chuckles goofily.

Erasmus:

My! Oh my. Guests!

He laughs and rushes off screen. Lila and Odette stand staring confusedly at the diminutive troll as he flurries around the vault.

Odette:

You’re…Well...

Lila:

Terrifying!

Erasmus is shown digging through his endless sea of books as he looks for a stool for Odette.

Erasmus:

Oh, it’s an act! To keep out the riff-raff, you know? Now don’t tell anybody!

He brings Odette the stool.

Erasmus:

Ooh, sit down! Make yourselves at home!

He rushes behind the lectern and returns with a tray of appetizers and tea.

Erasmus:

What can I get for you? Tea? Scones? Cake?

Lila, eagerly:

Oh, don’t mind if I do!

She eats one of the muffins on the tray but immediately spits it out in disgust.

Erasmus, grinning:

Made them myself!

Lila, disgusted:

When?!

Erasmus:

So, tell me! How are things in the forest? How’s my buddy Eldred the First?

Lila, smacking her lips:

Retired… got any mints?

Erasmus, ignoring her remark:

Really? Oh, well, that’s all he ever talked about anyway… What about Freda the Flighty?

Lila:

Old fairies’ home.

Erasmus, becoming more dejected:

Tender the Third?

Lila:

Bought himself a big wagon and now he’s travelling the forest.

Erasmus, somberly:

Everybody’s gone. Just like that--gone.

He flops down on the ground.

Erasmus:

You know what that means? I’m old!

He blows his nose and sniffles sadly.

Erasmus:

Nobody needs me!

Odette:

We need you! The Fairy Queen says there’s a legend about the Magic Crystal. It’s written in the Book of Forest Lore!

As Odette speaks, Erasmus notices the Crystal in her crown and his eyes grow wide.

Erasmus:

Oh my... Is that…? Is that…?

Lila:

Sure is.

Odette:

May I see the book?

Erasmus, not paying attention:

May you see it…?

Erasmus, snapping out of his trance:

Oh, absolutely! Right away!

Erasmus bolts back into his forest of books.

Erasmus:

My filing system is uh, state of the art.

The camera zooms out to show the absolutely staggering amount of senselessly stacked books littered around the troll’s library. He snatches a book from one of the shelves.

Erasmus:

A-ha!

He turns around to show the book to the girls.

Erasmus:

It looks exactly like this!...Only bigger!...and red… and of course it’s--it’s got that special lock…(More frantically)...I could swear I just laid my eyes on it!

He chuckles nervously.

Odette:

We can help!

She and Lila join him in the forest of books. The camera pans to Erasmus’ seat behind the stone lectern to reveal a bigger, red book with a special lock. Time passes and Erasmus is now digging haphazardly through one of the towering shelves, standing on top of a pile of books and a bust for support. Odette slowly sifts through a stack of books and yawns. There’s a flash and Lila yelps.

Lila:

Hey!

She is seen standing next to a jar of wands with a bouquet of flowers now growing from her mane.

Lila, irritably:

If I get zapped with one more defective wand, I’m gonna scream.

Odette:

I don’t know… it’s sort of… you!

Lila harumphs as Erasmus falls from his perch into an avalanche of books on the ground. He wheezes and coughs from the dust and pulls himself free from the pile. Lila laughs at his plight.

Erasmus:

Oh that does it! I give up! Where can that book be?!

Odette:

We’ll find it Erasmus. We haven’t been looking for that long.

Lila:

Are you kidding? We’ve been looking the whole night.

Odette, surprised:

We have?

Odette turns to look out the window and sees the sun rising over the cliffs. She faces a nearby mirror as she transforms into a swan again. The swan sighs heavily at the sight of her reflection, then turns back to face Lila and the troll.

Odette:

Which shelf next, Erasmus? We’re going to find that book if it takes all day!

In Rothbart's lair[]

The camera cuts away to Rothbart’s lair, built upon a twisted tree amidst a foggy chasm of thorns. A crow is seen flying towards the palace as it cuts to the interior. Odile is seen lying on a chaise lounge and digging through a gilded jewelry box filled with gemstones and jewelry.

Odile:

Bor-i-ing!

She tosses the jewel behind the sofa. She pulls what looks to be a rock out of the chest.

Odile:

Ugh, dull...ugly... Argh! I have nothing to wear! It’s humiliating!

Rothbart enters, pacing quietly. Odile sits up.

Odile:

Oh, I know that look. You’re thinking, aren’t you daddy?

Rothbart:

I’m getting that crystal if I have to rip the crown right off her head.

Odile, nagging:

Crown?! I don’t have one of those. Get it for me, daddy, I want one!

Rothbart:

Soon enough, my little starling.

He reaches down to stroke her face, but she bats his hand away angrily.

Odile, whining:

But I don’t wanna wait! Oooh! I’m like, the most out-of-fashion bird princess in the forest!

She checks her nails while she talks.

Odile:

Why don’t you just destroy her, daddy?! Any old...human can do it.

Rothbart’s face lights up.

Rothbart:

A human! Of course! Now that that girl's a creature of the forest, even the Magic Crystal can’t protect her from a human! Brilliant, ducky!

Daniel meets Odette[]

The scene shifts to Daniel riding his horse through the woods. He stops when he sees a large bird soar overhead. He kicks his horse back into a gallop and chases after the bird. The bird, which is Rothbart, lands for a moment on the log bridge to the Enchanted Forest and opens the gateway, leading Daniel inside. Curious, Daniel dismounts and carefully crosses the log bridge into the Enchanted Forest. He steps out of the cave into the clearing and is in awe of the beautiful landscape.

Daniel:

Whoa…

Daniel spots Rothbart again swooping below the trees and decides to pursue him on foot. The scene cuts away to Odette, who is seen sleeping on the lake while Lila recounts their trip to Erasmus’ vault to the others.

Lila:

We looked all day and all night and... zippo. Nothin’.

Carlita:

Shh! You’ll wake her!

Rothbart spots Odette from overhead and swoops down at her, laughing maniacally to scare her awake. The animals all scatter in fear. Worried that Rothbart is trying to attack her, the swan takes to the air to try and get away from him. He blocks her escape and chases her into view of Daniel, whose eyes widen at the sight. He removes his bow and nocks an arrow.

Daniel:

What a prize!

Rothbart:

Alright, go on, go on! Take the shot, take the shot!

Daniel follows the swan with his bow for a moment, but eventually loosens the tension in his bowstring.

Daniel:

So...beautiful.

Rothbart, frustrated:

What’re you---ugh, what are you waiting for? Now! Now!

Daniel lowers his bow. Odette swoops down to the ground, and just as she is about to land, the sun sets and she turns back into a human. She scans the sky for a moment to make sure Rothbart isn’t still following her before she notices Daniel.

Daniel, amazed:

Who are you?

Odette:

How did you get here?

She becomes flustered and curtseys awkwardly.

Odette:

Uh… your highness.

Daniel:

You know me?

Odette:

My name is Odette, I live in the village…at least, I did, until…

Daniel:

Until…?

Rothbart is seen soaring overhead, fuming.

Rothbart:

Humans are such fools!

He swoops down to the ground. Meanwhile, Odile is seen standing by the bank of the lake elsewhere, admiring her reflection.

Odile:

Now let’s see...maybe pearls. Ack! No! Ugh, much too yesterday! Hmmm, now rubies and diamonds! Now we’re talking. It’s just so-- fire and ice!

She giggles shrilly and we see that Ivan and Carlita are watching her from behind a shrub.

Carlita:

Do you see what I see?

Ivan:

An opportunity?

Carlita:

Exactly! I just need a few of mis amigos…

She smirks when she says this. We switch back now to Daniel and Odette, who has just finished explaining her circumstances to the Prince.

Odette:

...And now I have to find a way to break Rothbart’s spell… Somehow.

Rothbart, from behind them:

Well, well, well. I see the Fairy Queen still has some powers left.

He looks at Daniel with frustration.

Rothbart:

One arrow from a human. That’s all it would have taken.

Daniel, aghast:

You wanted me to kill her!

Rothbart:

You’re a hunter, aren’t you? Why else would I lure you here? Now, of course, you’re useless. As useless as...say, a pig.

Rothbart rears back his hand and thrusts it forward at Daniel, but Odette steps in his way, blocking his spell from hitting Daniel with the Magic Crystal’s shield.

Odette:

No!

Rothbart tries his best to break through the shield but to no avail. Daniel looks at Odette in surprise.

Rothbart:

You can save him. Give me your crown, and I’ll leave him alone.

Daniel rushes to pick up his bow and fire an arrow at Rothbart, but with a wave of Rothbart’s magic ring the arrow turns to dust before it could even reach him.

Rothbart:

You obviously have no idea with whom you are dealing.

Before Rothbart can cast another spell at the pair however, he hears Odile calling for him.

Odile, in the distance:

Daaaaaddddyyyyyy!!!

He tries to ignore her wails, but she calls him again more shrilly.

Odile, more vehemently:

DAAAAADDDYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

Rothbart rolls his eyes and finally decides to abandon the heroes for the moment, striding away. Odile is screaming as a group of skunks spray her repeatedly and mercilessly.

Carlita, to the skunks:

That’s it! Let ‘er rip!

Odile, screaming:

Oooh, you are all roadkill! DAAAADDDDYYYYY!

Rothbart, in bird form, arrives and transforms back into human form, which scares the skunks and the two elves away. He chokes as he smells the horrid aroma coming from his daughter.

Rothbart:

Odile!

Odile:

This is the worst day of my entire life!... I want to go home… NOW!

Rothbart, trying to hold his breath:

Don’t worry, you just need a bath with some…(he coughs)...vinegar and tomato juice!

Rothbart transforms into a bird and takes to the air.

Odile, angrily raising her arms:

What am I, a salad?!

Rothbart grabs her by the wrist with one of his talons and carries her away screaming. He coughs and groans.

Rothbart:

A long bath.

A romantic moment[]

The scene returns to Daniel and Odette.

Daniel:

Thank you… you saved me.

Odette:

As long as I wear the crystal I’m protected...I-- I wasn’t really in danger.

Daniel:

That’s not how it looked to me.

Odette:

...I’m glad you’re alright.

Daniel:

What is this place?

Odette:

I haven’t seen very much… but I could show you Swan Lake.

The two walk away towards the lake and the sky changes from sunset to twilight. They wander through the woods together as the elves assemble a picnic dinner for them. A group of floating lights drift through the air as the couple makes their way to the picnic place. When the cygnet elf brings Odette a bouquet of flowers, the lights spring from within and transform her peasant dress into a beautiful pink gown and pink high heeled dress shoes. After being surprised by Lila, Daniel gives Odette his hand to join him and dance by the side of the lake. They spend the whole night together, and as the sun begins to rise, Daniel musters the courage to ask Odette a question.

Odette asks Daniel for help[]

Daniel:

Odette… tomorrow night my mother is throwing a royal ball… Will you come with me?

Odette smiles at the offer, but her smile fades as she glances at the horizon.

Odette:

Oh, it’s nearly dawn…

Daniel, pleading:

Come with me, I can protect you at my castle! You can bring your family, please!

Odette looks at the elves, who all look very somber. After a moment of thought she turns back to Daniel.

Odette:

Daniel.. I… I can’t...I don’t know why, but somehow I’m connected to the Magic Crystal. I need to stay here, to help them! I’ll break the spell somehow.

Daniel, angrily:

I won’t let Rothbart get away with this... I’ll come back with an army.

Odette:

You can’t, he’s too powerful! He’ll do to you what he’s done to us!

Daniel:

I’ll take that risk!

Odette:

And your men?

Daniel looks down and doesn’t answer.

Odette:

Go home. I couldn’t stand it if Rothbart hurt you to get at me.

Daniel:

And leave you here?!

Odette:

Do you really want to help me?

Daniel:

Of course!

Odette:

Then find my family, tell them I’m alright and that I’ll be home soon! They must be worried…

Daniel:

But--

Odette, interrupting him:

Please, Daniel. For me? I’m safe as long as I have the crystal.

They both look to the sun as light begins to stream over the cliffs and through the trees. As it does so the elves begin to turn back into animals.

Daniel, realizing what’s happening:

No…

Odette is last, transforming back into a swan.

Daniel, heartbroken:

No!

Odette, pleading:

You must go.

Daniel:

I’ll go… but only if you promise to come to the castle.

Odette:

But--

Daniel, interrupting her, folding his arms, and turning away from her:

--Then I stay here with you.

Odette:

No!...I’ll...come tomorrow night. I promise!

The swan walks into the water and swims away, glancing back at the prince one last time before she does, while Daniel looks on. Time passes and Daniel is seen riding his horse into the village and stopping outside the bakery. He knocks on the door and peers through the window. A villager walks up to him pushing a cart of potatoes.

The baker misses Odette[]

Villager:

They’re gone... your highness.

Daniel:

When will they be back?

Villager:

Oh, hard to say… they’re looking for their youngest daughter... She’s gone missing!

Daniel:

When the baker returns, I’d be much obliged if you would tell him to come and see me right away.

Daniel mounts his horse and the villager bows deeply.

Villager:

Oh, of course!

Daniel rides back up the road towards the palace and the scene changes to outside of Erasmus’ vault. The troll’s cheers can be heard from inside before he bursts through the golden doors, hoisting the Book of Forest Lore into the air victoriously.

The legend of the Magic Crystal[]

Erasmus:

I found it, I found it!

He bounces down the path towards the lake with childlike glee.

Erasmus:

This troll’s on a roll!

Just as Erasmus leaves the shot, a mushroom on the ground transforms into a crow and flies away. We transition to the lake where Erasmus recounts his finding of the ancient tome.

Erasmus:

Well, what did I tell you? I knew I would find it with my advanced filing system! It was just a matter of time!

The Fairy Queen:

Well done, Erasmus.

Odette:

Where was it?

Erasmus becomes suddenly embarrassed.

Erasmus:

Er… I was sitting on it.

Lila chuckles at the troll’s answer. Erasmus stands up and hands the book to Odette.

Erasmus:

Here ya go.

Once the book is in Odette’s hands, the Magic Crystal glimmers and untangles the magical lock on the Book of Forest Lore. It unfolds to a specific page, which Odette begins to read.

Odette:

“The one who frees the Magic Crystal will share a love so true, it will overcome all evil magic”!

Lila:

You, and the prince! I knew it!

Odette hands the book to Erasmus who scans the page.

Odette, embarrased:

Lila!

Carlita, reading over Erasmus’ shoulder:

Uh oh, there is a “however”... “If, however, the true love…”

Lila:

...Meaning his royal cuteness

Carlita:

“...pledges love to another…”

Lila:

...Meaning not Odette?...

Carlita:

“...The Magic Crystal will lose its power!

Lila:

What?! That’s not fair!

The Fairy Queen:

No, but the legend cannot be altered.

Erasmus:

You realize true love is very rare!

Lila:

Are we talking: “meet the parents”, rare?...”Everyone gets along”, rare?

Erasmus:

Now that’s a start, but true love, well, it’s when two people love each other more than they love themselves!

The Fairy Queen:

Alone they are two, but together they are one. That kind of selfless love has awesome power.

Lila:

Ahh, Two for one! Well then, we gotta get busy.

Odette:

Doing what?

Lila:

Gettin’ you ready for the ball tomorrow!

Odette:

A ball?! At a time like this!?

Carlita:

Naturally!

She steps forwards dramatically and Ivan joins her.

Carlita:

You will walk in…

Ivan mimes looking around for Carlita.

Carlita:

The prince will see you…

Carlita and Ivan bow to one another dramatically.

Carlita:

He will ask you to dance…

Ivan spins Carlita before getting down on one knee before her.

Carlita:

...Then, he will take you in his arms and declare his true love to you!

She turns back to the rest of the group.

Carlita:

...And then we will all be saved!

Ivan:

Yes, yes my beautiful girl!

Ivan tries to hug Carlita but she pushes him away.

Carlita:

Quills, Ivan! Quills!

Ivan:

Oop, right! So sorry.

Lila sighs wistfully.

Lila:

Together, forever!

Odette:

But he’s the prince! I’m just a girl from the village.

The Fairy Queen:

Do you know what I see? Kindness, laughter, bravery. All worth more than any treasure a king could possess… I may not have many powers left, but…

She waves her wand over Odette’s head and her pink gown becomes a beautiful garment with layered blue and pink material cut to look like feathers in ballet shoes.

The Cygnet Elf, to Odette:

You look beautiful!

Odette:

Thank you!

She faces the group.

Odette:

I suppose it doesn’t matter that I don’t know the first thing about dancing at a ball.

Lila:

Nah, not a bit. We’ll teach you!

Ivan:

Dancing is my middle name! May I?

Dancing lessons/Erasmus gets kidnapped[]

Ivan steps into the clearing and dances to the latter half of the Hungarian dance from the ballet. As he finishes his performance, quills fly in all directions, causing the others to duck for cover. Carlita joins him in the clearing.

Carlita:

Ivan… Ivan… You need some salsa flavor!

She strikes a pose and begins to dance to the tune of the Spanish dance. After a while the fox elf joins her and the two finish the dance together.

Lila:

I love it, but I’m just having a little trouble seeing the romantic part where the prince declares his true love.

The Fairy Queen:

Perhaps I can help!

She waves her wand over hers and Odette’s head and their skirts shorten to long tutus. She begins to dance to the tune of the Neapolitan dance, which Odette joins her in. After a while the rest of the elves join in the dance and before long the entire group is dancing together. Erasmus does his best to dance along, not paying attention to his surroundings. Just then, Rothbart swoops in and kidnaps the troll, taking the Book of Forest Lore with him.

Odette:

Erasmus!

Erasmus yells in fear as Rothbart carries him away cackling. The Fairy Queen points her wand at her cousin as he flies away, but before she can cast a spell her magical aura flickers away, causing her to fall to the ground.

The Fairy Queen:

No…

Rothbart’s laugh is heard echoing in the distance as the elves and Odette turn back into animals.

Odette:

Come on, we can’t let Rothbart win. We just can’t!

Rothbart's evil plan[]

The scene changes to Rothbart’s palace, where we see Rothbart flipping through the opened Book of Forest Lore as Erasmus dangles from the ceiling, tangled up in conjured vines.

Rothbart, in awe:

My, my…

Erasmus, struggling:

There’s nothin’ in there...Just old fairy tales!

Rothbart:

I see the Magic Crystal isn’t invincible after all… Hm, what would my cousin say to that?

He turns to Odile.

Rothbart:

Odile, my little sparrow...

Odile:

Yeah, daddy?

Her hair is being combed by a pair of crows, who accidentally jab her with the teeth of the comb.

Odile, angrily:

Hey! Watch where you poke that!

Rothbart:

Do you remember the crown you wanted?

Odile:

Oooh, am I gonna get it? Am I, daddy?

Rothbart:

Tonight! At the royal ball… My spies tell me Odette is going to try and meet the prince there.

He sits down on the chaise next to Odile and points his ring at her necklace. The jewel at the center, which was once green, changes to a deep red.

Odile, annoyed:

Daddy, that’s my 3rd favorite necklace!

Rothbart:

It’s magic now! Everytime the prince sees you, he’ll see his true love… that silly Odette girl.

Odile:

...So?!

Rothbart:

So, then you can trick him into declaring his love for you!... Can you do that?

Odile:

Are diamonds a girl’s best friend?

Rothbart, endearingly:

Daddy’s little dove.

He begins to pace around the room as he explains the rest of his despicable plot.

Rothbart:

Once the prince swears his love to you, the powers of the Magic Crystal will be lost, and we will finally fulfill our destinies! I will be the one and only ruler of the Enchanted Forest!

Odile:

And I’ll be the most stylish creature in it!

Rothbart:

And after that, who knows what worlds we can conquer? Perhaps we will take a liking to the royal palace!

Odile cackles shrilly at the concept and Erasmus thrashes against his binds.

Erasmus:

It won’t work!

Rothbart:

Bold words for a troll who’s about to be eaten!

As Erasmus struggles frantically to get free, Rothbart casts a spell at him and the scene ends. We transition to outside Rothbart’s lair and see Carlita, Ivan, Lila, The Fairy Queen and Odette all spying on the dark palace.

Carlita:

It gives me chills to be back here.

Odette:

Erasmus...Is he…?

She looks to the Fairy Queen who is leering at Rothbart’s lair.

The Fairy Queen:

...Still alive, but under a magic spell.

Lila:

So, how do we get in?

Odette:

Rothbart flies everywhere he goes...maybe there’s an entrance near the roof. I can find out.

Lila:

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! So, we’re supposed to just hang out here and watch?!

Odette:

No, I’m going to need your help.

Rescuing Erasmus[]

"Swan Lake Finale" starts playing. Odette is seen explaining her plan to the group before the camera cuts to her flying towards Rothbart’s lair. As soon as she gets close, three crows swoop from the dark palace to intercept her. She narrowly avoids them, but they quickly catch back up to her. She dives beneath the cloud of fog surrounding the palace to lose the crows. They circle for a moment, trying to locate the swan, and are surprised when she zooms from her hiding place past them and up towards the highest part of Rothbart’s lair. She flies through a window and down a large stairwell into the main foyer of Rothbart’s palace. She lands on the ground and begins searching for the troll.

Odette:

Erasmus? Erasmus…?

Erasmus’ voice:

Over ‘ere!

Odette wanders to a small crevice in a wall to find Erasmus, who has been turned into a worm.

Odette:

...Erasmus?

Erasmus:

Aye...Don’t even ask. The ravens are everywhere! And worse, they’re hungry!

The swan gingerly picks up the worm with her beak.

Erasmus:

‘Ey! Don’t get any ideas!

Odette tosses him into the air, causing him to land on top of her head. The sound of the ravens can be heard from the stairwell behind them.

Erasmus:

Hurry…!

Odette manages to juke the ravens once again as she swoops back up through the stairwell to the topmost window and out of the palace. The ravens are in hot pursuit. One zooms up to Odette’s right side.

Erasmus, frantically:

Ohhh, uh oh! Watch it! Live one at 3:00!

Odette dives towards the roof of Rothbart’s palace, pulling up at the last minute so that the raven pursuing her crashes into the building. A new raven joins the remaining two and the new trio speeds after the swan. Odette leads them into the forest where the elves and Lila are waiting to ambush them. The first raven is taken out by Carlita, the second is pinned down by Ivan, and the last one crashes into Lila’s horn.

Lila, triumphantly:

Oooh! We are good!

The ball begins/Odette leaves the forest[]

The scene changes to the royal palace in the human world, which is bustling with partygoers arriving for the royal ball. The large ballroom of the palace is abuzz with fancily dressed guests, and the Queen notices that Daniel isn’t present. She finds him just outside, pacing.

The Queen:

Daniel, the ball is beginning!

Daniel:

I’m waiting for someone!

The Queen:

A future bride, I hope!

Daniel, laughing:

Well, I guess so!

The Queen:

Well now, that’s wonderful! I want you to introduce us the minute she arrives!

She leads him back into the ballroom. He looks over his shoulder worriedly.

Daniel:

If she arrives…

The scene fades back to the Enchanted Forest, as Erasmus explains Rothbart’s plan to the others.

Erasmus:

...And then, Rothbart will use Odile to trick Prince Daniel!

Lila:

No, no, no, it can’t work like that.

Carlita:

The prince has to be in love with Odette! Ooh, this is a catastrophe! Or worse! Oooh.. Migraine…!

Lila:

I’ll go! I was there once!

Odette:

No, I’ll go.

Lila:

You? Come on. There’s probably about a dozen hunters in the village ready to shoot a perfect swan… I remember… It’s a tough crowd.

Odette:

It has to be me, because then Daniel will see he’s being tricked!

Lila:

Hmm...You’ve got a point.

The Fairy Queen:

Use the crystal to open the rock at the waterfall. Good luck, my dear.

Lila:

And Odette?... Watch your back.

Odette takes off and flies through the forest.

Odile tricks Daniel[]

The camera transitions back to the royal ball, now in full swing. Couples are dancing to the waltz portion of the black swan pas de deux. Daniel is seen standing off to the side as his mother joins him again.

The Queen:

...Your special girl?

Daniel:

No sign of her yet.

The Queen:

Until then you can’t be rude.

She waves a hand to a group of ladies standing aside as well, who wave and giggle at the sight of the prince.

The Queen:

The room is filled with lovely young ladies. Find someone wonderful to dance with while you wait.

Daniel looks at the ladies for a moment then turns to bow to his mother.

Daniel:

May I?

The Queen:

Rascal.

As the two begin to dance, Rothbart and Odile enter. Odile is wearing an ebony tutu with golden trimming. She looks down at the enchanted necklace around her neck, which glimmers.

Rothbart, in a whisper:

Remember: Not a word.

Odile, shrilly:

Why not?!

Rothbart:

Uh-uh. Not. A. Word.

Daniel stops dancing with his mother when he notices Rothbart and Odile. The camera shifts, and we can see the prince’s view of the two. Odile looks identical to Odette in every way, while Rothbart is a slightly altered version of her father.

Daniel:

Odette! She’s here!

Daniel leads his mother from the dance floor to meet Rothbart and Odile who bow graciously.

Rothbart:

Your majesties.

Daniel, to Odile:

I’m so glad you came.

Odile, as Odette but with her normal voice:

And I--

She is cut off by Rothbart squeezing her hand to prevent her from talking.

Rothbart, laughing:

--We wouldn’t miss it.

Daniel, to Odile:

Will you dance with me?

Rothbart gives Odile’s hand to the prince, and he leads her to the now clear dance floor. The pair begin to dance the andante portion of the black swan pas de deux. As the camera changes, Odile changes between her true form and the vision of Odette. Daniel is completely transfixed by her. Meanwhile, the real Odette is seen flying frantically towards the palace for a moment, accompanied by the Swan Lake Finale, before returning to the scene at the ball. As Daniel and Odile continue to dance, he begins talking to her.

Daniel:

You know, I promised my mother I’d find myself a bride tonight...and... I never break a promise...

Odile looks at her father and smiles. The Queen is seen standing alongside Rothbart.

The Queen:

It appears my son is enamored with your daughter.

Rothbart:

Yes, it does, doesn’t it?

The real Odette is now closing in on the palace. Rothbart looks out a nearby open window, prompting him to step away from the Queen so that she won’t notice. He sees the swan, causing him to scowl and use his ring to slam the window shut in her face. Odette flies to another open window and looks inside to see Odile and Daniel dancing together.

Odette:

No!

Rothbart spots the swan again and uses his ring to close that window as well. Daniel and Odile begin to finish the pas de deux, and right on their final position, Daniel asks Odile the important question.

Daniel:

I guess what I’m asking is...Will you marry me?

The real Odette is seen watching from outside the window.

Odette, in horror:

No...no!

Odile doesn’t answer and instead bourrees towards her father, who steps forward to speak to the prince.

Rothbart:

I couldn’t help overhearing, your highness. Are you asking for my daughter’s hand in marriage?

Daniel:

Yes!

Rothbart:

Well, that’s very flattering, but I must ask: ...Do you love her?

Daniel:

Yes...I love her with all my heart.

Odette loses consciousness from his words and falls from the sky. As she hits the ground, the Magic Crystal becomes dull and grey.

Rothbart, triumphantly:

Thank you, your highness! You’ve been very helpful!

He drops his and Odile’s disguises and the crowd gasps in surprise.

Daniel, snarling:

Rothbart.

Odile, taunting:

What day should we get married, big boy?

Daniel, ignoring her:

Where is Odette?

Rothbart:

Who cares? You’ve already pledged your love to my daughter!

Odile giggles and winks at the prince, blowing him a kiss as she and her father transform into birds. The crowd gasps and screams again at the sight. Reggie throws Daniel a sword which he points at the two birds, but they take off before he can engage them.

Odile:

Bye-bye, sweetie-pie!

Rothbart takes over[]

As the sun sets behind the palace, Odette returns to her human form just as Rothbart and Odile land beside her and transform back into their own human forms.

Rothbart:

What a pretty picture.

He bends down and takes the crown off her head.

Rothbart:

Let’s see how brave you are without the crystal.

Odile, impatiently:

Daddy. Aren’t you forgetting something?

Rothbart pulls out the powerless magic crystal from the tiara. He fastens the now inert jewel to his collar before handing what remains of the tiara to Odile.

Rothbart:

All yours, my little sparrow...as promised.

Odile squeals and giggles as she puts the crown on her head eagerly.

Odile:

Oh, it’s me, isn’t it?

Rothbart rolls his eyes at her before turning back to Odette on the ground.

Rothbart:

A futile legend, wasn’t it? You? Beating me?

Odile takes off her new tiara and admires it, only to notice Daniel standing over them in the reflection. She gasps.

Odile:

Daddy!

Rothbart quickly moves as Daniel lands on the ground between them and Odette, pointing his sword at them. Rothbart laughs at the sight.

Rothbart (cackling):

Come to discuss your wedding plans, boy?!

Daniel lunges at Rothbart, but before the sword can reach him, he uses his ring to turn it into a feather.

Rothbart:

I believe it’s your move.

We’re shown the Fairy Queen, Ivan and Carlita being pulled in an ornate carriage by Lila as they come to rescue Odette. They slow to a stop when they see her lying unconscious on the ground.

Ivan, somberly:

We’re too late…

Carlita:

No!

Lila:

This is all my fault…

The Fairy Queen, standing:

Wait… she’s still alive!

The sparks of light that follow the Fairy Queen around zoom towards Odette while Rothbart is distracted by Daniel.

Daniel:

So, what are you afraid of? Come and get me, I’m right here!

Rothbart tries to strike Daniel with magic from his ring, but Daniel tumbles behind Odile right as Rothbart does so and the spell accidentally hits her. Odile screams as she is transformed into a squealing pig.

Rothbart, gasps in horror:

My little starling!

The Fairy Queen’s sparks of magic carry the unconscious Odette away while Rothbart tries to comfort Odile.

Rothbart:

Daddy’s little dove…

Lila, to Odette:

Come on!

The final battle/Two for One[]

Odette lands in the arms of the fairy queen, and as soon as she’s safely in the carriage Lila takes off back down the cobblestone path towards the forest. Rothbart realizes what has happened and stands up.

Rothbart:

The girl!

Odile:

Daddy! (She snorts fitfully) Make it--make it go away! (She snorts again) Make it go away, Daddy!

Rothbart looks at her then looks back at the fleeing carriage.

Odile, vehemently:

DADDY!

She screams angrily.

Odile:

Ohhh, great--

Rothbart, snapping:

Be quiet!

He transforms into his bird form and chases after the carriage, leaving Odile behind. She snorts and sputters, turning in a circle frantically.

Odile:

Daddy, wait! (She snorts) I’ve got a serious situation here!

The carriage is seen speeding through the trees towards the gateway to the Enchanted Forest. Lila glances back at the Fairy Queen as she runs.

Lila:

Is she okay?

Lila and Ivan look behind worried. The Fairy Queen looks down at Odette, then up over her shoulder to see her cousin pursuing them. Sparks of magic swarm about the carriage and lift it into the air so that it can cross the log bridge into the Enchanted Forest. Lila opens the gateway and they zoom through the cave with Rothbart in hot pursuit. The carriage zooms through the trees to try and lose him, but he uses his magic to cause a tree to fall in their path, resulting in the carriage crashing into the ground. Rothbart lands before the wreckage and returns to his normal form.

Rothbart:

Ah, much better. I don’t like to rush around, it’s bad for the digestion...Now for the girl…

Lila:

I don’t think so, bird-brain!

Carlita:

¡Si!

Ivan:

да!

Rothbart, sarcastically:

Cute, the Three Musketeers.

He laughs at them.

The Fairy Queen, off screen:

Leave the girl.

She steps out of the carriage and confronts her cousin.

The Fairy Queen:

Your battle is with me.

Rothbart, grinning:

You’re right, cousin.

Rothbart rears back his hand and the Fairy Queen raises her wand, but he ends up being much faster than she, casting a spell that transforms her into a mouse.

Carlita:

¡Ay! Your highness!

Lila, horrified:

Oh no!

Lila scowls at Rothbart and charges him, but he simply steps out of the way as she crashes into a tree, getting her horn stuck. Ivan tries to use his quills against Rothbart, but with a wave of his ring the quills fall to the ground. The two elves shrink out of fear and run away as Rothbart approaches them.

Rothbart:

Is that the best you can do?!

Lila frees her horn and turns to see Daniel approaching on horseback, carrying his bow. He nocks an arrow and looses it at Rothbart, who once again turns the arrow to ashes before it can reach him. By this point, Odette has awoken, and as she blinks away the sleep she spots Rothbart and Daniel. Daniel draws the sword at his side.

Rothbart:

You don’t know when to give up, do you, boy?

He uses his ring to blast the sword from Daniel’s hand, and Daniel narrowly escapes another fatal blast which crashes into a tree beside him as he runs away from Rothbart. Odette gasps and follows after them.

Rothbart, furiously:

Did you really think a puny little human could stop me?!

He begins to cast a spell but is distracted by Odette arriving.

Odette:

No! Daniel!

She dashes to join the prince and Daniel runs to meet her.

Daniel:

Odette! You don’t have the crystal!

The two turn back to face Rothbart just as he fires another spell that strikes them, causing them to fall to the ground, hand-in-hand. Now, it’s made unclear to the audience what the fate of the couple is at this moment, but it’s heavily implied that the spell was fatal and that they died in each other’s arms. Rothbart laughs victoriously at the sight of the fallen pair, the crystal at his neck starting to glow red.

Rothbart (laughing):

Not a bad deal, “Two for one”!

He spreads his arms triumphantly to the air, laughing; the crystal begins to glow red.

Rothbart, loudly:

At last! This world is MINE!

As he continues to laugh madly over his victory, the Magic Crystal begins to shine with pink light and carry him into the air.

Rothbart:

What?!

Lila:

The crystal’s power isn’t gone!

The pink light from the crystal begins to envelope Rothbart as he scratches madly at the jewel to try and release himself.

Rothbart, frantically:

How can this be?! No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

One final burst whites out the screen. Just then, Rothbart’s palace begins to crumble, the land around it returning to life as the terrible fortress collapses. Leaves begin to sprout from the twisted branches of the dark trees that once surrounded the dark palace. The tree that once supported Rothbart’s palace grows anew and the fog clears, revealing a sparkling lake surrounding the newly grown tree, leaving no trace of the villain’s lair. We return to our heroes, who set the Fairy Queen on the ground as she returns to her true form, glowing with a magical aura and floating over the ground once more. The elves lose all traces of their animal forms on their costumes and they turn to look at Odette and Daniel.

Ivan:

Oh! Look!

Daniel and Odette begin to noticeably breathe as they begin to wake up from their fallen state, hands still held.

Lila:

The legend… It must be true love!

Ivan:

Two for one!

Odette and Daniel slowly open their eyes. Odette rolls off of Daniel and the two sit up wearily.

Daniel, weakly:

...Odette?

Odette, smiling:

Daniel.

The Fairy Queen, the elves, and Lila all smile at the couple as they help each other off the ground.

Daniel:

Rothbart tricked me. It’s you I love...If you’ll have me.

Odette says nothing but pulls Daniel into a hug and the two embrace, their troubles now finally over.

Happy ending[]

Time passes and we are shown a celebration at the clearing near the gateway to the human world. Fairies, elves and humans alike are seen dancing and talking to one another during "Swan Lake Waltz" and "Dance of the Little Swans", as Odette and Daniel waltz with their respective parents. Odette’s hair is now pulled into a bun with a swan tiara containing the now smaller crystal, and her costume bears a pair of shimmering wings. Carlita, and the two elves who were once the cygnet and fox, begin “the dance of the little swans”.

Carlita:

Ivan! Ivan!

Ivan, worriedly:

What?! What be wrong?

Carlita:

No Quills!

Ivan looks at his arms in realization as Carlita giggles. He then joins them in the dance excitedly. The camera pans to Odette and her father who are holding hands.

The Baker:

I still can’t believe that we’re here! Or that you saved this Enchanted Forest.

Odette:

A friend once told me that you’re braver than you think.

Odette looks at Lila, who smiles.

Odette:

...Turns out, she was right.

The Baker:

I’m so proud of you!

Daniel taps the Baker on his shoulder.

Daniel:

May I?

The Baker turns and faces Daniel.

The Baker:

First, I have one very important question, young man!... How many layers for the wedding cake?

Odette, laughing:

As many as you’d like, papa!

Lila:

And can it have a lot of those frosting flowers? I love those flowers!

The Baker gives Odette’s hand to Daniel, who bows before waltzing away with her. Odette’s wings light up as she and Daniel dance to the Swan Lake Waltz.

Barbie’s voice:

And so, Odette discovered courage in the most unlikely place: herself.

Kelly’s voice: Did they all live happily ever after?

Barbie:

Well...Maybe not all of them

Odile is seen inside Erasmus’ vault standing next to a clock on the wall, carrying a duster and wearing an apron. She sneezes violently.

Odile:

Hey, doesn’t anybody care that I am allergic to dust?!

She sneezes again. The clock chimes and the cuckoo bird inside is seen to have been replaced with Rothbart, who is wearing a ridiculous tie and top hat.

Rothbart:

You. You think you’ve got problems?

Epilogue[]

The scene fades away and back to the present, return to Kelly and Barbie sitting outside the cabin in the woods.

Kelly:

I’m glad Odette…(Kelly yawns)... didn’t stay a swan forever.

Barbie:

Tired?

Kelly:

Uh-huh. I’m gonna go to bed.

She stands up and walks towards the cabin door but pauses and turns to face her sister.

Kelly:

...Barbie?

Barbie:

Yes?

Kelly:

Will you come see me race tomorrow?

Barbie, smiling:

Wouldn’t miss it.

Barbie opens the door for Kelly who walks inside. Just before entering the cabin herself, Barbie takes one last glance at the constellation Cygnus as the movie ends.
