Alfonso is a character in Barbie: Princess Adventure. He is voiced by Dave Fennoy. Alfonso lives in Floravia and he is Amelia's royal adviser. He is a well-meaning man who controls everything about Amelia's life so she can have a perfect image.
Story[]
A week before her coronation to become queen of Floravia, Amelia does a photo shoot with her horse Morning Star. Alfonso tells the photographer to get her best angle. It starts to rain, so Alfonso beckons the staff over to cover Amelia. He asks Amelia if she had a good time during the photoshoot, and she says yes because she loves rain. Alfonso tells her the rain ruined the photoshoot, and she can't be seen covered in rain because the world holds her to a higher standard.
Amelia wishes the world could see her for who she is, but even she doesn't know who she is because of the limitations Alfonso gives her. He says she is young, naive, and not ready to make her own decisions. Alfonso welcomes Amelia that he will protect her from herself until he thinks she is ready to be independent.
Amelia sees a vlog by Barbie where they look identical, so she invites Barbie and her school friends to the palace. Alfonso greets them when they arrive and tells them to enjoy their stay. Principal Miller, who accompanied Barbie and the other students, calls Alfonso handsome. They follow him into the palace. Alfonso is secretive about Amelia's whereabouts for security reasons. He tells everyone that the west wing, where Amelia is, is off-limits.
Before Alfonso can show the guests to their rooms, Barbie encounters Amelia. Alfonso apologizes on Barbie's behalf, but Amelia asks for her and Barbie to be left alone. Alfonso bows and leaves. Amelia tells Barbie that she's desperate to express herself, but she thinks Alfonso doesn't think anyone wants to know her real self. Amelia suggests that she and Barbie switch places for a week so that Amelia can experience life as a normal girl. Barbie agrees, and Amelia sneaks out of the palace.
Barbie goes to a yacht party in Amelia's place, but she wears a personalized necklace of her name. Alfonso shows Barbie a photo that was taken of her at the party. He removes the photo from the press pool and hopes that he was the only person who saw it. Alfonso says situations like this are why he must keep control at all times.
Alfonso asks Barbie where Amelia is, but she doesn't know. Alfonso plans to find Amelia but doesn't want anyone to notice she's missing, so he tells Barbie to keep pretending to be the princess under his watch. He has Barbie hand over her necklace, and Barbie phones Amelia to tell her that Alfonso knows they've switched places. Amelia is confident he won't find her because she is good at hiding. She says she will be back in time for her coronation.
The next day, Alfonso wakes Barbie up, and the staff prepares her for a busy day. Alfonso accompanies Barbie to a royal horse show. He introduces Barbie to Morning Star and says she has to appear as Amelia, or people will know something is off. Alfonso introduces the horse show, and he watches Barbie performs well with Morning Star. He smiles and waves to Principal Miller, who is also in the audience. Alfonso says Barbie was wonderful at the horse show, but she also has to do a photoshoot, royal orphanage tour, and dress fitting.
Barbie complains that Alfonso should give Amelia more credit for making her busy schedule look effortless and that he should listen to her more. Alfonso says he is just protecting Amelia, but Barbie says he is stopping her from making her own decisions. She asks Alfonso if he's ever asked Amelia what her ideas and dreams are. Realizing that he doesn't know, Alfonso becomes defensive and says Amelia must be perfect because of her fame. A little girl tries to take a photo of Barbie, thinking she is Amelia, but Barbie wants to have a more personal connection instead of filming their meeting. Alfonso allows this to happen without anyone interfering.
Alfonso tells Barbie to go to coronation practice with Prince Johan, whose country is surrendering to Floravia. Johan secretly wants to become the ruler of Floravia and notices Barbie's necklace at the yacht party. He arranges for Amelia to be kidnapped so she will miss her coronation and he can become king. Barbie finds out Amelia is in trouble, and she tries to ask Alfonso what he knows. Before Barbie can get to Alfosono, Johan orders for Alfonso to be taken away. Alfonso tells Johan that he won't get away with this.
Barbie and her friends find Amelia and get her to the coronation in time. Johan is arrested, and Alfonso crowns Amelia as queen. Amelia says she wants to start a royal vlog that she writes and produces herself, so she can speak directly to her people. Alfonso says he supports her decision and that she is ready to be a wonderful queen. As everyone celebrates, he dances with Principal Miller.
Physical Appearance[]
Alfonso has short gray hair, brown eyes and light skin. He has a beard and mustache and he wears black glasses. Alfonso usually wears a navy suit with a white shirt, light gray waistcoat, a pink tie, and dark shoes. For Amelia's coronation, Alfonso wears a sash that is blue, gold and pink.
Personality[]
Alfonso is strict, serious and unadventurous. He follows tradition and trains Amelia well so that she can be seen as the perfect princess who makes no mistakes. He is over-protective and controlling, but Amelia knows he means well. He knows everything about Amelia, so he quickly figures out that Amelia is missing. Alfonso becomes uncomfortable when Barbie points out that he doesn't really know Amelia's true self because he has controlled her so much. After Amelia rebels by leaving the palace without his permission and finding her true self, Alfonso becomes more supportive and encouraging to Amelia.
