You know how Otto in Rapunzel and Tallulah in Island Princess have accents? What accents do you think they are? All I know is "European somewhere"?
We got our girl Kelly!
@XTinkerBellx Rocki is great too, and really feels like some of the older Barbie villains in my opinion, and her design is everything. I do want to see more Marlo too.

Polly Pocket
If either Diamond Castle or Charm School were turned into Broadway musicals, who would you cast for each?
NOTE: Alexa and Hadley are played by Teresa, so please cast Latina actresses if you can.
Possibly, though at the same time they work at a dance school in America so I don't know.
Native American: I'd like to see Nia from the Western Fun line as she was Native American, they could discuss all the current issues going on right now.
Shine from 12 Dancing Princess was a cover of some Greek song apparently, don't remember what it was called or the singer.
Unbelievable from Three Musketeers
Not sure if this counts but Spontaneous Combustion from my Scene
I think the hissy fit thing is more the fact that so many people are like "never should white people voice non white characters". Those are the people I have problems with, obviously not everyone who criticizes the VAs are hypocritical or biased. As for the "American" thing, true they are Asian and black Americans, but what I meant by that was that they're culturally American, they talk with American accents and live like Americans (in other words, they're assimilated Americans born in the States), so it's not like they have accents that clue you into their culture like Apu in The Simpsons. Diane is Vietnamese, but it's never really a big part of her character. similarly to how, say, Barbie (Malibu) is of French and Swiss descent but those were just gimmicks for two of the movies and never mentioned before or again. Heck, even Brooklyn's story doesn't revolve around her being black. I do see how I could have been simplifying the hissy fit thing and assuming everyone who dislikes the original VAs are hateful, and not clarifying what I meant by "American".
I also found a similar video to this conversation by a Filipino guy, talking about how he understands why people are now mad, but how he doesn't completely agree, even making some of the points I did:
But I do get why so many people are bothered by it, even though I may not necessarily agree. And on the bright side, related to my hypothetical series, Akiko would be voiced by Shannon Chan-Kent, a Chinese woman, and Younghee would be voiced by Jamie Chung, a Korean. So I wouldn't cast only white people anyway.
True. I agree with all your points here, nothing wrong said.
Have you noticed that Natasha has a (more) Russian accent, yet Katerina's British for some reason, even though they're supposed to be sisters?
Speaking of VA diversity: I have a hypothetical cartoon called Aurora Borealis and Company, about a girl group from Finland, their sidekicks, and their rivals, with three notable POC: Zaiga and Akiko are sidekicks and are black Latvian and Japanese, and Younghee, the main villain, who is Korean. The thing is that due to my like of her voice, I'd cast Kelly Sheridan as Zaiga. I know that the internet is in a frenzy about the "You better replace white VAs even when the characters are Americans who simply have that ancestry, like Bojack Horseman and Big Mouth replacing them)", so if I shared this anywhere, I'd be bullied about it.
P.S. I'm surprised that the new Strawbeery Shortcake cast Diana Kaarina as Blueberry, specifically because this version of her is Japanese, and nobody is having a hissy fit over it (well, not yet at least).
I believe that you should have white and POC VAs, but you should cast whoever you want. Whoever sounds the best is who should be cast, don't cast simply because of race, almost feels like modern segregation.
To add to your thing on the mostly white thing (which I made clear isn'tsomething that automatically bothers me): Specifically when they used Canadian VAs, most of them were white, but there were many POCs as well: Bethany Brown and Kandyse McClure were black, and that's not even talking about the many Asians, two of which voiced Ken. Kazumi Evans is Japanese, Vincent Tong is Hong Kong, and Alessandro Juliani is half Chinese and half Italian. So, there was actually some diversity there, and while Ken has been voiced by white guys, let's compare the amount of white Kens vs. Asian Kens.
2 white Kens: Kirby Morrow and Mark Hildreth. 3 Asian Kens: Juliani, Tong, and now Ritesh Rajan. So Ken is usually played by an Asian man. That's interesting.
Thank you for not being like "how dare white people VOICE a character that is even slightly dark" like most people on the internet. I'm a POC. Heck, most of my best friends were POC (including my current friend, who's Asian) and they don't care, as long as the actor themselves isn't a bad person. I've never seen people talk about how say, non-Japanese characters in anime being played by Japanese people, or Japanese, Thai, Latin Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, etc, dubs of American/Canadian/European/Australian media not having anyone of the right ethnicity. I believe that anyone can voice a character, and so many angry people call me "racist" or "a traitor" and essentially bully me for not siding with them (also they bully and pressure the actors to stop and apologize, so it's not even like they want to).
Wasn't expecting Marlo to turn good but hey! Cool!
I want to see a Generation Girl movie!
I know we'll never get a movie with Kira, Lea, and Kayla, but if we talk about characters Mattel neglected and then forgot about, how about Generation Girl? Like, Tori, Ana, Lara, Chelsie, and Mariko all deserve to be more than a spinoff, especially considering they were the predecessors to My Scene, who got their own movies.
She is not Asian. Just because she often has brown eyes and black hair doesn't make her Asian. Plus in the movies she started as a redhead, then had LARGE BLUE EYES, sure it's claimed she plays Isla in Charm School but that's once again a fanon headcanon from the people who think she's Asian, she doesn't officially play Isla. Dunno where people got the idea that she was Asian from. The name "Raquelle Nia Lee Kim" has been circulating the internet but that's not actually her surname. Her surname is not officially known, all surnames are headcanons. I mean I headcanon her surname as Harper, and have seen many other surnames for her such as Stan, Price, Shelby-Finnegan, etc. but they're not official, and Mattel has never said she was Asian. Even my Asian friend looks at Raquelle and can see she's not Asian. Plus Isla in Charm School has actual Asian features, Raquelle does not. The only confirmed Asian characters (excluding obviously Asian dolls and movie characters that don't get listed as such) were Lea, Kira, and Renee. Similarly, I've seen people say Erika Juno is black and Nori from secret door is white when they're played by Teresa, meaning they're Latina not black or white.
And My Scene
Captain Candy is Indian
America Ferreira is in it so maybe she's gonna be Teresa. Sadly there's no Renee or Daisy so no Asian or plus size rep since this is clearly Life in the Dreamhouse based, unless they either make a new Asian character (maybe Simu's character unless they do make Ryan and Raquelle Asian). But still no plus sized rep since Daisy didn't exist at the time. I just want to see Miko, Lea, and Kira in a Barbie movie finally is that so hard to ask? I mean, we could have Lana Condor as Kira, maybe Olivia Rodrigo as Lea, and as Miko is Hawaiian, Auli'i Cravalho would be perfect for her.
I know that definitely won't happen but I can dream. I just love Kira, Miko, and Lea and am mad that as soon as cartoons became a thing they were literally forgotten.
